As for marginalizing the subject of aristocracy by comparisons to world events, saying one is better than the other, rather than judging each on its own individualistic merits, one might also allude (at the time) that Hitlers recent election is a good thing for Germany and instills nationalistic pride to how a good german should behave when you compare it to what is going on with Syria or Libya right now. Sorry, the argument just doesn't logically work for me.

However, this video sort of captures the proper feeling:

You must be getting quite old then...

I believe a study showed that the British royal family more than pays it's way because of the tourism they generate.

Actually the only claim to Royalty Fergie has is on her ring finger.... left hand...

her dad was a dubious character who did a runner to Argentina....
like a lot of Germans after the war....
So yes Zee... maybe you do have a claim... if any of your ancestors came from Hanover.....

Re: Royal Wedding a British Tsunami

Actually, I'm aware of my own family's lineage as having a long history. We migrated first out of the horn of Africa and then northwest from the area of the Tigres and Euphrates about 100,000 years ago. Some of you might be distant cousins!

The whole point of being British and the Monarchy is that if we had to explain, you wouldn't understand.
