Re: Royal Wedding a British Tsunami

I find it all rather embarrassing. and disturbing for a country trying to compete in the 21st Century.

There is of course no reason why the Royal Family cannot carry on forever (the gormless waving at the gormless is good for Tourism ) just absolutely no reason why they should automatically provide the head of State.

Be interesting to see when the Scots, the Irish and the Welsh (eventually ) leave the Union whether they keep the monarchy.

Re: Royal Wedding a British Tsunami

The worse part is the Royal Family isn't even British. They are Germans, who drove out the indigenous Celt "Britons".

Again, you can't sideline the issue at hand by comparisons (btw Obama is Hawaiian). We need a celt as queen...and preferably one who can do cartwheels

Re: Royal Wedding a British Tsunami

I arrived in Dubai this morning and was interested to see many hotels here have put up big screen tv's & marquees with royal wedding parties planned all weekend, including a big one on the beach. One place even has a replica ring up for grabs and will be serving cocktails and wedding cake!

Weddings can transcend politics - it's a time for love and peace and hope. So refill your glass and join in the celebrations, lest ye becometh thy cynic

We can choose role models who try their best to serve with dignity or we can choose role models who get caught in hotel rooms with coke & hookers - both have their pros & cons (although one has more 'pros').

That depends entirely on your frame of reference. E.g. all people born in UK are considered British [by birth]. By your logic, nearly all people in the world can not be of a stated nationality since humans have historically been nomadic - and if you go back far enough we all migrated from one part of the planet! One has to apply a time reference; birth seems to be the norm used around the world (how long back do you propose we go to determine somone's nationality?).

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Neal

Do they have to show their birth certificate before their coronation?

Re: Royal Wedding a British Tsunami

Congratulations Catherine and Wills!

Is there any girl here who, given the opportunity would not trade places with Cate? Is there any man here who, given the opportunity, would not like to have inherited the stature, the wealth, the opportunities and the girls that William could choose from?
(only answer if you have been given the opportunity, otherwise I don't believe you!)

This couple has the power to inspire nations to strive for what is good, to believe that good things can happen and that the world is a good place after all. Positive news inspires tourism, business growth and hope in the souls of mortals whose view of the world is based on what features on the world news. It beats reading about pirates, murders, tornados, bush fires, car accidents, wars, betrayals, immorality, racial hatred, poverty, disease, famine, earthquakes and political scandals. What did any of these inspire?

He is actually Irish-African and is visiting Ireland soon. No queen in Ireland.
And this from one of a long line of Irish peasant plantation underling.

have been laughing out loud for a few mins now. Brilliant.

A good friend of mine of many years is a private jet pilot based in Jersey, flying vip's in & out... he tells me 'it's basically a bunch of alchoholic crooks clinging to a rock trying to avoid 10m+ tides and taxes - I've finally found the greatest place on earth - when you moving here?'

My knee-jerk response was to show the irrelevency, IMHO, of genetic background to the subject of this particular thread.
Bottom line is they qualify, by birth or selection, to be there.
to the couple.
