Printer & scanner on board

Question to those who have a printer & scanner - which model/make is proven to survive? Many thank.

The issue here is any model that has been time-tested is no longer on the market. We have had an Epson 820 aboard for 5 years and 60000 miles. Still works every time we ask it to.

No sure a scanner is needed anymore. If you're just scanning a few pages an iPhone works fine, even does OCR. I've recently used mine to scan all sorts of oddly formatted and even colored documents. Worked well for example on a death certificate.

If you've got reams to scan, find a local office supply store.

I have been using Canon portable printers for decades (currently Pixma TR150). They have been permanently mounted on the chart table. Average life is 5 years. Ink cartridges are hard to find but available on Amazon.

The beauty of these are the small size and low power requirement. The print quality is excellent and when used on glossy photo paper can produce displayable art although they are mostly used for documents and paperwork. It connects to my laptop via wifi (through a clunky interface). They should be used often to keep the nozzles clear.

Previously a model had a scanner function, now not an option so I have an inexpensive flat bed scanner or I use the smart phone's camera which I use rarely and keep in a locker.

Re: Printer & scanner on board

I am wondering if a letter size thermal printer might be a good idea... They are fairly cheep and no having to deal with the ink cartridges. down side is the need for the thermal paper. Has anyone else tested one of these out?

I have had a Cannon MG3600 series printer/scanned on the boat for 6.5years. I don't think the make/model make a difference if you boat is dry down below

I don't think Thermal paper works well in moist environments. Plus the print will fade very fast if exposed to UV
