RIP Jimmy, you had a large influence on my early adulthood that led me to many strange ports (and associated dive bars).

Few would argue that his music was "good", but boy was it fun. He will be missed.

Re: See you at the Great Tiki over the horizon...

I loved his music, spent some time in old Key West when it was a rundown haven for hippies and fishermen and shared his love of Florida.

He inspired many of us to learn to sail, hang out at beaches, enjoy drinking rum, chow down on greasy cheeseburgers and kick back so you could enjoy life where ever it takes you.

So I sometimes wonder why he didn't take more of his own advice instead of spending most of his later years building a billion-dollar merchandising empire that even included a Margaritaville retirement community.

Whatever. His concerts were great fun. I once attended a spur of the moment show he put on in New Orleans at his bar there. Totally outrageous. He drained Bourbon Street of people.

Jimmy Buffett

https://www.jimmybuffett.com/

As someone who grew up with Jimmy's tunes as a soundtrack, I am really sad to hear of his passing. But I think he'd probably say, live on, live well and think of me once in a while with a smile.

"Some of it's magic, some of it's tragic, but I've had a good life all of the way."

Rest in peace Jimmy. Home is the sailor...

Sail on Jimmy. You changed my attitude which led to me change my latitude.

One of my Buffett favorites too. Another favorite line is from a different song: "I suppose the need to focus never arose...my life is something like a Swiss army knife."

I am one of those who'd argue his music was good. How many make music that is still great 50 years later?

Many a time I would plug in one of his CD's while spending a few days working on various boats of mine. It made the whole process just a little more enjoyable.

See you at the Great Tiki over the horizon...

I was a business traveler, based on SW FL. Before Sirius merged with XM, I played Jimmy’s station almost exclusively while I traveled the State. I discuss many great Trop Rock artists like Scott Kirby, Ilo Ferreira, Toots and the Maytals, and Michael McCloud. To this day, I still play Jimmy’s music every time I’m in the truck. Hopefully I get back on the water in FL and beyond, before my time is up. May God rest his soul. What a life he had.
These lyrics, Jimmy wrote about John Wayne, are now apropos for Jimmy:
“Think of Red River, The Liberty Valance, can’t believe the old man’s gone . . . But now he’s Incommunicado, Leavin' such a hole in a world that believed
That a life with such bravado
Was takin' the right way home”
RIP Jimmy. Glad I got to see you live, if only once.
