At one time in the 70s I managed a Seafood Resturant on the Mystic River in Noank Ct. I was able to keep my then 1931 American Car & Foundry Cabin Cruiser at the Dock that belonged to the resturant. Shelly Winters was there for Lobster and noticed my boat. She came over to the boat and remarked how nice all of the mahagony was. She was a very nice lady, we were thrilled. If I had any balls I would have invited her on for drinks...I did get her autograph.

But on boats -

We saw Sean "Puffy" Combs on his Nordhavn (60-70fter) in Block Island's Great Salt Pond last summer. Very friendly guy. Was having a blast it looked like.

One time - at sailing camp....

When I was a pre-teen my parents sent me to a sailing camp on the James River. I had been trying to talk them into this for years, but upon arrival - I immediately fell ill. I only spent a day on the water before being confined to the camp infirmiry with only the male nurse. I was constantly ill, and not much for conversation - so it was at least halfway through the week before I caught the nurse's last name:
Slocumb.

When I asked, he seemed very surprised by my question - and even more surprised that I had read that book. He then confided that although his name was spelled differently - he was the great,great,great (or something like that) grandson of Joshua Slocum. I don't remember much about what was said, but I remember the feeling that I had. The significance that this meeting seemed to have in defining my purpose in life...

For a kid obsessed with sailing - this chance 'celebrity' meeting made a week of vomiting and migraines the best camp experience ever!

Saw Colin Ferrell (spelling?) at Staniel Cay, Bahamas. Very polite to all the folks who wanted autographs and pics. Helped bar maid hustle beer cases.

Saw Walter Cronkite at the Willy T, Norman Island, BVI. Apparently he keeps a place and a boat on St. Johns USVI and visits the Bight fairly often.

Saw Dick Van Patten (the foather on Eight is Enough) in Maui, Hawaii.

That and $3 will get me a beer at most beach bars. Whoopy Doo!

Walters son in law was pie eyed on the Willy t once. I mwntioned that his cigar smelled like burt cheap carpet. He explained that it was a $20 cigar. I asked him if he would like to see $10 worth sticking out his ... well we were liquored up.

My wife chartered a dinner boat to Julia Roberts for her birthday. Nice lady but her manager was the devils ugly sister Very demanding and gave autographed pictures as a tip! ( Normally they get 10% of the charter fee) Crew threw them in the trash!.

Ran into Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber from Die Hard, Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movies) Alan Rickman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . He has (or had, anyway) a house on San Juan Island up in Washington. I was in Friday Harbor, and went to King's Market (the only market in town), and he was buying some milk.

when I was a teenager I used resurface Paul Newmans tennis courts and got meet him and Joanne Woodward. later on as a adult I got to meet Michael Jordan because a friend of mine was one of his pilots. I also met Micky Mantle at his resturant in NYC

Sadly, nude diving from the Willie T has been banned by the BVI government! This according to a news article I read a few months ago. One more of life's little naughty pleasures down the tube.

My son plays hockey and says NASCAR doesn't even qualify as a sport, and it is #1?

American Football is probably* the most popular spectator sport in the United States, followed by Baseball.
*NFL Football gets by far the highest television ratings, however the highest attendance sport is MLB Baseball, due to the size of the stadiums and the number of games played.
NASCAR auto racing is not a “sport”; it’s a “spectacle”.
Walking & Swimming are probably the most popular participatory sports in the USA.
