I see this is a year old, researching to replace my starter which was a geared drive lighter weight replacement provided by O'reily and made by Wilson starters, but the throw was wrong. Perhaps it needed a spacer because the
gear remained engaged when the
engine ran and it burned up the bushing and thank god it didnt destroy the flywheel. I love the geared starter but Im now afraid of them for reasons of proper fitment. And if I'd not been fitting a new
alternator and running the engine, Id have thought it was a great starter and headed out to sea only to have a horrible breakdown under way and lose my engine! And so happy there is a removable
inspection cover one can use to observe the fit with the starter installed, with a
camera or mirror to detect the proper engagement of the starter
gear.
