Re: Perkins 4.108 Starter

Per local starter shop got this
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Mounting holes and spacing plate fit perfectly. Little longer (two inch overall) - should be enough room to mount it. Working end longer by one inch - will see if it fits to the engine.
Report back in a few days.
Solenoid has one high amp (+) and low amp (+). My original starter solenoid has two contacts (one is double wires I guess from pilothouse and cockpit panels) another one is with yellow tube on it - have now idea how crucial it is.. See the picture. Any thoughts?

Re: Perkins 4.108 Starter

Update... The new starter esquires additional spacing plate - 18mm.
Cost me $80. Total is $220 - better than $600 for exact fit starter.
After installing tested it with shorting terminals - works.

Re: Perkins 4.108 Starter

I see this is a year old, researching to replace my starter which was a geared drive lighter weight replacement provided by O'reily and made by Wilson starters, but the throw was wrong. Perhaps it needed a spacer because the gear remained engaged when the engine ran and it burned up the bushing and thank god it didnt destroy the flywheel. I love the geared starter but Im now afraid of them for reasons of proper fitment. And if I'd not been fitting a new alternator and running the engine, Id have thought it was a great starter and headed out to sea only to have a horrible breakdown under way and lose my engine! And so happy there is a removable inspection cover one can use to observe the fit with the starter installed, with a camera or mirror to detect the proper engagement of the starter gear.
