Prices coming down?
From browsing Yacht World daily, it seems like Catamaran prices have slowly been coming down in the last 1-2 months. I assumed it was just the specific cat's listed needed more work than shown, but I also received an email from Leopard about the new 45 dropping to $699,000.
Anyone buy or sell in the last month and can share their feedback? Or someone who currently has their cat listed?

Re: Prices coming down?
General uncertainty in the world economy driving demand down and manufactures adjusting business model to suit. If it keeps going you may see some reducing staff, liquidating unused assets etc. Boat manufacturers are especially susceptible to downturns, but I wouldn't worry about Leopard.

Yep, any day now,..... sure, the prices,....... they're dropping like flies. Probably get a Lagoon 56 for about $ 150,000.00. Nobody wants those anymore............

...and anybody looking at a Lagoon 56 probably doesn't even blink at the price!
As a side note, the observation is correct; the prices (at least for used) are starting to come down a bit, and - more importantly for some - the numbers of used boats are coming up. I think most insurance checks were used, and charter companies are up and running, so we'll see the numbers of used boats increasing again.
As somebody already pointed out, there are lots of other factors involved, even the Brexit fiasco in the UK right now. Will be interesting to see what happens.
Regards,

Do you think this will happen next month, or will I have to wait until May?

Re: Prices coming down?
If you are looking at second hand boats in US dollars prices of boats priced in Euro looked to have fallen because the exchange rate has improved the USD.
We have seen an example of a used Lagoon asking price Jan 2018 was 360k Euro and approx $450k USD, same boat still for sale today at 360k Euro and $406 USD.

Ha, It's funny how one joke leads to another.
To the OP, looking at asking prices on YW is rather useless. It might give you a price range for a particular model. But, you won't really see the difference in prices until you actually start putting your feet on deck.........

Re: Prices coming down?
Hurricane Sandy in 2012 destroyed or damaged 50,000+ boats. Irma and her siblings in 2017 are responsible for another 60,000+. I am guessing that reduction in supply in the short term caused a spike in prices. To a lesser degree, the rebounding economy since 2016 may have increased demand as well. The only thing tamping down demand would be the spike in insurance rates. I'm sure some brokers can chime in to confirm this.

Re: Prices coming down?
The market is soft everywhere right now for anything with sails. People just aren't interested and their worried about the economy, especially outside the USA. Luxury items like boats are the first thing dispensed of during uncertainty, it doesn't matter if it has one hull or two.

Re: Prices coming down?
I have noticed that boats in OZ are more affordable now for Yanks because of the exchange rate. It's crazy how things flip flopped.

Re: Prices coming down?
It's been 10+ years since the last recession. Meaning that anyone who wanted to get a boat and could afford one has gotten one. Unless there is a new generation of potential full time owners coming up, as the current owners wish to dispose of their pricey boats they will not find enough potential buyers who can afford $300-400K for a used boat/cat. And most such buyers who can afford such expenditure might as well buy new at $699K.
$300K and up for used boat is a very slim slice of boat buying public. Especially internationally, during the times of a strong dollar.

Re: Prices coming down?
It could be seasonal fluctuation. Warming up means lower catamaran prices and come late fall, the prices go up again. This can easily be 5-15% of price.

Re: Prices coming down?
When it comes to Lagoon 380, 39 and 400īs there seems to be an increased number of adds on YW of offered boats in the price range of 200-285.000€. Same goes for the Leopards around 39ft and FP cats in that size.
I guess this is just a normal fluctuation of price, since the overpriced market after Irma and Maria couldnt hold up like that forever - at least this is what i hope for...
Dont know how much of those are "empty" adds from brookers just trying to catch some customers... Some of those adds are there since well over a year....
Letīs see were this will get us and hopefully we will not see any more Irmas or Marias soon...
