Re: modernizing a prout elite 37ft

thanks for the good wishes!

twas a great find, just when i was trying to work out what to do with all my surplass boat gear cluttering up the workshop!

more or less got in all the stiffening in the downstairs center section,
the hulls are really starting to feel a lot more solid now, with very little wobble.

epoxied in one section of a missing fwd transverse bulk head, time consuming as this is a permernant bulk head, that wont be stripped out,so has to be done properly.........no splinters unlike the other tempory sections

both hulls cleaned up nicely, will need a polish to remove a small amount of oxidation around the scuppers, that is expected after sitting 23 years!

underside is like new!

would like to start the under waterline epoxy anti osmosis treatment tommorow if the weather is good

i have some nice iroko planks for that!

i am waiting till the aft bulkheads are tabbed in as jacking it up unsupported might distort the hull, but that and the osmosis treatment are definitly on the list,as once i leave the yard were i am the prout will dry on every tide

Are you going to copper xxxx the bottom? It was a long job getting my hull clean to do so but a year and a bit later the hull looks good. ps I,m thinking of a standing head room pilot house and it would fit under the boom.

coppercoat would be great! but it would blow the budget at the moment!

here is a link to a prout that has a very nice pilot house ,plenty of room under the standard boom height to do this.

I was looking at that boat earlier today. I agree that pilot house will look great on your new ride.

Yes plenty of room for photoelectrics too. with the larger covered cockpit area FULL standing head room inside is less important.
The nacel gives quite a lot of space where needed. storage is a little less than expected although there is plenty of room under bunks.
You could rethink hull penitrations as standard is more holes than required with long runs for the heads pipework.
A hatch into the engine compartment from the cockpit well asists in impellor changes and motor work.
will have to take photo to show this.

with my current setup of stern drive i might mount the engine in the cockpit well, where the fuel tank normally goes and run a shaft to the transom that will link up with a universal joint to the sonic drive!

you will see why once i get to that stage and post some photos, this will also move a lot of weight into the mid section, but toying with fitting twin engines in the aft cabins,as i have a 27hp lombardini, and a vetus 32hp that would fit nicely, though extra weight-----and my other boat would be mssing its genset engine

These boats can't handle the weight of twin diesels. Clearly you're not concerned with these type of realities so have at it!
