Re: Considering new Seawind 1260

I imagine that putting reverse bows on the 1260 will do the following. Make it look a little more sexy, push the crossbeam aft about a foot and reduce headsail area. I’ll take mine as is thank you.

Re: Considering new Seawind 1260

Don’t get me wrong the 1260 is a great boat. A true seawind, More deck clearance than a 1600 if you believe the seawind specs. I guess you inherit some flaws when you remodel someone else’s design. Like a 911 one drools over the latest and greatest but would be more than happy in a well maintained 964.

Adding a reverse bow to the current design seems like the wrong move. The hulls will need to be flatter on top like the 1370 for it to look good. The cabin top would also need to modernize a-bit to work with the reverse bow. So a major redesign is needed anyway.

I guess you are seeing new 1260 owners join the owners FB page? A few 1370 buyers here said they were initially going to buy the 1260 when the surprise 1370 dropped. The 1370 really showed where Seawind is headed. Eventually the lineup will share the same design language. If seawind can sell 30 new 1280s instead of 10 1260s then it does make sense.

Anyway again love the 1260/1160. Your 1160 is basically a singer Porsche. A bit of a classic design but fresh from the factory.

I'm not really privy to where Seawind is headed. It'll be interesting to see how much the actual 1370 looks like the computer image. At the moment, that hull and deck design is the outlier in the lineup. Albeit the newest model.

The 1260 has had active sales for a couple of years now, and yes, during that time we have seen their owners come into the FB group. (I think there still is a two-year wait for a new hull, due to demand.) Overall, there are a lot of Seawind owners excited about the company having a new model to fit that void. That aside though, there is not an overwhelming acceptance of some of the new features being better than on the existing models. For starters, the majority of SW owners like the galley down of current models. And along with that, the amount of storage that entails with upper cabinets possible. Full opening front windows, on the 1160-1260 models. Few people really care about what direction the nav station points. We don't use ours under sail, as the CP and other instruments are at the helm. As such, I think tucked in a hull is just fine.

I think what Seawind did was maybe capture a group that previously wouldn't be drawn to Seawind. That's why I am cautious about immediately jumping to all new Seawinds are going to look like the 1370. Plus I think the wider hulls on the 1370 will be good for cruisers wanting to load up the boat, but because of that I am not sure it will be faster than the 1260 hull design. I know of only one 1160 owner on the FB site that has signed up for a 1370. Again, all reasons I would caution against thinking that this single new hull will be reflective of the entire model line in coming years.

I would expect that if they did so, they would leave the deck the same - including the crossbeam - and just extend the lower portion of the bows. That would just entail a change to the hull mold. Guessing!

Re: Considering new Seawind 1260

Extending the lower portions would look funny. Just imagine it. Hope they don’t do that. Would also do nothing except adding the look of a reverse bow. Doesnt seem very seawind.

Infact the only option i think is a real improvement over the older model is the structural longeron. So no more wires and padeyes in the hull for the sprit. Also the permanent code sail attachment is nice.

please no. The one with the foredeck raised is a bit more natural I think.

The mast need to be pushed back for sure. As it was on the 1370 to maintain or in the case of the 1370 increase the jib area ratio.

Looks more like a Balance to me than a seawind. I prefer the versa helm.

I have my eye on a seawind or if I can swing it a Ballance 442. Both great brands

I think Seawind will tool up and get these 1370 rolling out faster especialky once the have the first few boats in the water like the Ruby Rose Hull No 2 and with the high demand. Also the up to 2000kw of solar and the beyter power management, double the charge alternators will be a big plus on the on top of the storage. I think the 2+ year waiting list will be faster than that as they are growing the 1370 orders al the time!

Does't raised foredeck mean more plastic You pay for, more weight You carry, more windage You fight with, more pitching You get?

Looks better though and more headroom. The 1370 is more or less the template future seawind will follow.

Why do you keep saying stuff like this? Are you in any way connected to management, or even the dealer network?
