- I grew up sailing with friends and on my grandfathers cruiser. I pursued a career in the merchant marine as a deck officer on iron ore ships around the Australian coastline where I learnt old school navigation and the day to day operations of commercial vessels. I was told one day by our ships bosun that these cargo ships will all be automated by computers and guided by satelites one day and we will all be out of a job. So I got into Information Technology and have owned many boats since, but I am waiting for the lockdowns to finish and buy the cruising catamaran of my drwams and sailing off into the sunset.
