I just got word from the original owner/builder: the Seawings 36 is sold pending mechanical inspection.

I also checked this boat out about 12 years ago, 99% sure it is a trimaran named "Alacaluf"... it's a shame no one jumped on the project and the owner didn't donate it back then. Would be great to see someone live the dream in this boat. Harris is the designer by the way.

The layout (crawl through between front & rear cabin, under front beam to bow, etc) left a little to be desired, but for someone young & maybe not too tall it could make a great boat, checks off a lot of the right boxes...and as mentioned lots of gear, tools, etc, etc circa 80's/90's onboard.

The boat seemed like a solid "project boat" back then. Looking at the engine, you can see the boat likely filled up with freshwater, so I might be a little concerned (or realistically want to haul the boat for a real inspection) to be sure about the core. I am pretty sure it's foam & glass hulls.

If anyone ends up buying it feel free to pm me I may have additional details about the boat saved.

Definitely a project boat, but there is a LOT there for the price. My biggest concern about the Wildcat is that I've read that it is balsa cored......... I consider anything built with a balsa core and polyester resin essentially junk! Cored boats built in female molds without at least vacuum bagging have an abysmal record with regard to long term structural integrity. With balsa core and polyester resin, the boat begins to rot from day one ;-(

It doesn't take a lot of sleuthing to find a number of reasons to pass on one of these. The obvious first issue is the full standing head room, galley up configuration on a cat this size. This virtually guarantees inadequate bridge deck clearance, and probably high windage as well. The bridge deck clearance definitely is inadequate as per reports, resulting in pounding issues.
The hull even below WL is cored with end grain balsa, and core separation has been a nightmare for at least one owner...... actually the core was never bonded to the surface. The repairs added up to over 30Kusd, done mid voyage in NZ. The included photo makes it obvious that the core was not bonded from the factory, and this was just one of many areas, some very extensive. It's pretty clear that this is a boat to be very shy of. I'm not a fan of balsa core anyplace on a boat, though I believe that it probably can work done with epoxy infusion so that the vacuum bagging achieves good uniform pressure. Properly applied I believe epoxy resin can keep water out of a core, and end grain balsa is probably the best core material in terms of a good bond to the laminate if done properly...... Unfortunately experience with polyester resin shows that any moisture penetration results in spreading rot

I believe that north carolina wildcat might have considerable more delam than just the entire deck....how much are 2 diesels, sail

drives and a fuel tank worth, and how do we get them out?

Yep, someone did. We went out last week and took a good crawl around the boat and decided to take the leap. It's not our first rodeo. My wife and I were both boatbuilders for a number of years and have built both carbon and glass boats. It needs some significant deck repairs, as well as a good portion of the interior fitted out. Its going to be a long term project for us at this point, we are not in a big hurry just now. We had a 5ish year plan anyway!

The previous owner had a pile of materials, and accessories already collected, so the price was more than reasonable I think for what was included. We will not be getting started immediately, but when we do I will post something and give you a link to our website so you can follow along as we rebuild it. It should be fun.
