Re: Opinions on These New Monohull Cruising Scows?
I find them hideous. I tend to be a traditionalist with a deep appreciation of technical advances in build quality and scantlings. If it doesn’t look graceful it’s not my ideal.
The Amel 50’s features in a graceful design would be my ideal.

Looks like a small pogo or a small pogo enlarged depending on how you view it

Re: Opinions on These New Monohull Cruising Scows?
Chotu, I love them. No doubt my retirement project will be a scow bow trailer sailer. Something along the lines of a McGregor 25 but with more sex appeal.
Just check out this Raison 29-foot scow.
Cheers

Obviously the mini Transat design conclusions found its way into production boats.

Haha, classic understatement.
After reading the article in Yachting World my suspicions were confirmed.
All those "designers" need to be rounded-up by Chief Inspector Clouseau and thrown in the Bastille.

Re: Opinions on These New Monohull Cruising Scows?
I wonder how they perform in any kind of swell, especially going upwind. I've only seen scows racing on lakes.

Per part of the article in the OP:
".... when heeled these boats present a relatively narrow immersed section that doesn’t slam into a head sea with the intensity that the flat saucer-like hull might suggest. At the same time they have enormous righting moment, which gives power to punch over big waves and reduces the total time spent sailing to windward...."

Re: Opinions on These New Monohull Cruising Scows?
oh yeah, I guess I should read!
So you have to be heeled to get the benefit of the finer entry and not slam, but the shape of the hull resists heeling. I really can't imagine sleeping in it going upwind, but I could be wrong.

Re: Opinions on These New Monohull Cruising Scows?
My concerns were drifting toward ultimate inverted stability.
It obviously has a righting moment curve a lot more like a catamaran.
Once these go over to 180 it kind of looks like they would stay there.

The photo in the OP is a foiler, so I guess once on its side it would stay there or invert, might need a safety float at the mast top like a Hobie Wave catamaran.

Great observation, and it is worthy of more investigation. Does anyone know?

Re: Opinions on These New Monohull Cruising Scows?
My guess is that they have a GZ curve pretty similar to boats like Pogos. Probably pretty stable upside down. The article didn't bring that up though, of course.
