Live Aboard ASA Sailing Lessons

I saw an add in a magazine about a live aboard sailing lesson program in San Diego. It was an ASA certified program. You take lessons for 5 days and you stay on the boat at night without the instructor. Then afer a 5 day week of lessons you take the boat out by yourself for two days. Does anyone know of a program like this in Florida? This program was 2 students and one instructor.

Its called water sailing">Blue Water Sailing School in FT Lauderdale by far the best around. I took their liveaboard sailing school it was about 5 or 6 days. the best thing i ever did. prepared me for just about eveything for going crusing.

I got lucky and had a great instructor. I dont think he handled a sheet or the wheel the hole time. He made us learn everything by doing it.

There are a lot of schools that have live-aboard classes in Florida. Here's a link to the ASA website with a list that you can check...

It's not a "cruising" school but if you want to learn sailing I'd recommend J-World in San Diego. You learn on engineless J-80's. Learn on a tiller, no engine, etc.

I have to agree, although a few years ago, i took my sons out with Blue Water Sailing School to do the USVI week. They certifed up to bareboat charter level and now can do their own thing.

denfer has the right track when I was looking into sailing schools just log onto the ASA website and they will list schools in your area. There is one other certified sailing organization as well the name is just on the tip of my tongue. A few of the mebers here will know what the other one is because they and ASA are the main two.

The other main certification organization in the United States is US Sailing. Their website is here... US SAILING Home

I'm going to check out the USVI week thing. How long would it take to get bareboat charter certified???
