Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

Another C&C 38, 1976, $38.5K CAD ($29K USD) in Port Stanley, ON - on the north shore of Lake Erie.
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-sailboat/lon...ale/1666094391

This has a practically new engine. Looks well-maintained.
New canvas, composting head, new hatches, recent batteries.

I'm not sure about the claim of a new oven and stove (as it appears to be an Origo and I thought they were out of production). Newish, perhaps?

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds

I came across a 1983 Watkins 36CC and offered the yard $500 and they agreed. Engine runs, electric seems to work, fridge/stove work. But, deck soft and sole needs to be replaced. I hope I can fix in a fashion that will not kill the wallet 😬. Anyone have any insight into this boat? Pros and/or cons. I like the big cabins.

Doraaman,
You will get responses to your question if you start a new thread. It gets confusing to change the topic of an existing thread.

You paid $500 for that Watkins and you';re concerned that it might "kill the wallet"? You picked the wrong hobby. The sole should be relatively straight forward. The deck?...not so much. I have done one. It requires de-skinning areas (I do it from the top) and recore.
There are many threads with "some" good suggestions. Where is your boat?

Old listing showing sold by Edwards Yacht Sales, couldn't find a date.
Yacht was located about 1 hour north of Tampa according to this listing.

Assuming I can work out a time with the seller. PM me.
So a little update on this boat:
- I did go look at it for Solbriller
- Solbriller is a man of his word, and sent me not one but two bottles of Aperaol
- Solbriller bought the boat!

As far as I could see, there was no "catch" - just lots of work. Its a big project, but he bought it cheap.

Very encoruaging to see someone actually buying a boat off this thread!

There has never been a cheap boat, you either pay for it when you buy ,or after you buy ,but pay for it you do ,or you tell fibs about its condition and or cost .⚓️⛵️

Of course. Note I said he bought it cheap. That doesn’t mean that it will be cheap to own or that he won’t spend a ton of money getting it in shape. It only means he bought it cheap.

Ideally, someone can buy a cheap boat, and it will still be in good enough shape and of a type that is worth fixing up for their own purposes.

I usually only post boats here of types that are IMO worth owning, and look to be usable as live-aboard cruising boats without too much initial work.

I think for US $20K +/- there are quite a lot of these around North America.

CF should start an annual contest for the most helpful CF poster of the year. Take nominations, and have a forum vote. Winner should get a gift card to a CF advertiser. Could encourage people who are positive and helpful. We spend too much time criticizing the cranks. Why not reward the nice folks? I would nominate solbriller!
