Good example of a nice boat. Very liveable. The work required on the engine is undefined, and the state of the sails isn't mentioned.

If someone was in the market and in the area, it would be worth a look.

I know someone with one of these. The price isn't too low. There are some serious issues that were there from the original build. Mainly to do with hatches leaking and exterior woodwork leaking.

There is no apparent shade or shelter in the cockpit.

If original, the electrical system and plumbing probably needs replacement...which might mean removing interior carpentry for tanks.

No teak decks is a big plus.

Perhaps in the US. In the Great Lakes I've seen at least two for a similar amount ($30K Cdn). My friends bought theirs for that.

I know they have problems...especially the chainplates but down here they go for some serious money.

Nice interiors, good layouts. OK sailors.

Hers had circumnavigated single-handed then been left for perhaps a decade with no maintenance. Probably uncovered. All the exterior wood fastenings had been compromised with subsequent serious rot in bulwarks from the caprails (down to the electrical panels), hatch openings and companionway/cockpit walls.
The water and holding tanks are "abandoned". I'm not even getting into canvas, sails or rigging or teak decks.

Not getting a survey, nor talking to the previous owner were mistakes.

It sits inside a barn and my friend has run out of enthusiasm and time, so I'm a bit leery of old boats of similar build.

If someone is thinking of a boat like this, check everything and be prepared for surprises.

Went to see this Bombay Clipper 31 a month or so ago. Lovely, clean boat, but I don't think it's seen any upgrades since the '80s. To sail on SF Bay I'd want to add a roller furler, some cockpit instruments, maybe a repower, overall probably costing more than the boat itself. So I said no initially, but I keep second guessing...

Welcome aboard riksf! Looks like a nice boat, though I am not familiar with that brand and their build quality. It looks to me like the draft is less than 6.5 ft, but that is no big deal. Probably a typo. Or, does she have a swing keel? Of course I am not sure, but I doubt it needs a repower, and you can sail without roller furling. Seems like she'd sail now just fine and you could add things as you go. The price does seem a tad high, but if she has new sails and rigging that's a plus. Good luck in your search!

Man that's a lotta boat for the price..
Why repower, its only just been run in..
With the foresails I'd fit a roller furler then remove all the hanks off the head sails and replace with bullet slides to fit the roller groove..
A wheel pilot would also be a must, after that the world's your oyster.

Shocked this hasnt sold unless it has giant blisters all over the hull. That price is kinda nuts

If shipping it to my house to sit for a few years and back wouldnt cost half as much as the boat id send a surveyor tomorrow
