The Cape Dory, has no mention of engine, sails etc. Although the way the sails fold to a very tight parcel, they may be shot. No apparent interior cushions and little exterior canvas shown. The woodwork is horrible.
If the engine is old, worn out, or fails to run, it's not just questionable, the boat's not worth buying, imo.
If you have little money and are tempted by these, work for another year and buy something a bit better. Buy a decent trailer-sailor in the meantime.

Both have cult followings, especially Flicka.
Of course not a reason to buy, but there are thousands of model boats that you would recoup less for your restoration efforts in future years

Re: Boats Less Than $30K Recent Noteworthy Finds
Here's an interesting one, a 1966 Cheoy Lee 36 -- asking price $6000 or best offer. At that price, you'd assume a wreck, and the pictures do make it clear that it's a project. But on the other hand:
The Huntress... runs a Westerbeek 107 diesels power with less than 170 hours on it and has nearly new sails with roller furling jib , new stove/oven , new bottom paint. Needs some work but very good condition.
If I weren't already soul-deep in a project of my own, I'd drift by to look at that one.

Really nice lines to the Offshore, IMHO.

Interesting boat. But I'd pass.
Good points, as mentioned: probably good engine and sails. Also this is a Great Lakes boat - they only get used for 4-6 months per year and only in fresh water.
(I don't know why GL boaters obsess about bottom paint, frankly, it's not like there are barnacles, and almost everything comes off with a Fall power wash).
Less-than optimal: this style of boat has a small interior for the length and relatively small cockpit lockers. Teak over fibreglass on deck/cockpit at his age is very dubious. Lots of small fasteners, some of them will leak.
Electrical work from this era needs replacing. Rigging too. Electronics are probably not worth keeping. Interior cushions look spartan and old.
Lots of fixed ports which need work, I bet most are leaking.
The whole interior needs refinishing, painting the bulkheads white and picking out the teak trim with varnish would look OK.
Also, moving this boat any distance would cost more than the boat. Otoh, there might be $2K USD of lead in the boat...

If it were on my side of the USA I would go for it not more than a couple grand in materials and a few months puttering around on a refit and she would be good as new .
( I am a retired shipwright so. )

Yep. It's one of those, "if I had the skill, time and money, it's a diamond in the rough". If someone has to work for a living, not so much.
Boatyards on the Great Lakes contain a lot of these kind of deals, while the contemporaneous boats in Florida have probably been scrapped.

Got a friend there in Florida that saves 3 or 4 boats a year if he can .
Here is his current project.

Indeed, if the boat is halfway as good as the owner claims (admittedly, a big if) and if a person had the time and trade skills (another big if), then at that price there would actually be a chance to refit and resell at a profit. Oh well, "If 'if's' and 'buts' were candy and nuts...." But I also noticed that the seller has a dozen photos, yet not one of the ever-dangerous teak decking.
