Boat Shipping Help TN to FL

I have a friend with a Pearson 28.5 in Nashville that is on a land locked lake. I am wondering if anyone might be able to give me some ideas on how to best get it down here. We could splash it in Old Hickory and make the trip, but I can't get 3+ weeks off work to fly up there and do it. It's not a huge boat, there has to be a reasonable way to get it here that doesn't involve 4,000 for a shipper.. Shipping it down to the coast and then sailing down is an option as well.

Ideas, options, or does anyone have a trailer we can rent?

If you use a commercial carrier it is going to cost a couple of thousand or more. Just no way around it. Even easy cargo where you load a couple of pallets of something in a box truck figure base cost of $1.50-$2.00/mile plus fuel surcharges and other miscellaneous fees.

Hauling a boat on a special trailer will be more. One reason boat hauling is more, unless the trucker gets lucky and finds some other load for a flatbed he will be going one way on the trip empty which costs him. This will be calculated into the price.

Don't forget a few hundred on each end to load and unload the boat.

You can save a good bit if you want to try it yourself. If this is the Pearson 28.5 Triton the beam would be OK but you would have to watch the vertical clearance. 4'11" draft plus waterline to the highest point on the boat, guessing another 5' plus trailer clearance you are looking at a minimum 12-13' vertical clearance which will not fit under all bridges. Don't forget the time and cost to build a cradle to hold the boat on a trailer. Not a trucker so not sure if you have to get special permits for the vertical clearance but I would check before trying it.

It's looking like a shipper is the best option, just need to find one that is somewhat reasonable. If anyone has any suggestions on a shipper in the Nashville area please let me know.

I'm heavily involved in the transportation industry. As long as total height (including trailer) is 13'6" or less and 8'6" wide or less you wont need any oversize permits. From Nashville, your best bet may be having the truck shipped to Gulfport (or Mobile) and sailing to Florida from there.

Second that. Make sure its Joe Blow from the dirt road down the street showing up with his 1986 Ford F-150 and ex UHaul trailer with rotting floor boards. Ensure the company is USDOT registered and has the proper amount of cargo insurance.
