Bezo's new yacht

There's a lot of negative chatter about it. But putting that aside (please!) At least it's a lot better looking than some of those Megayacht high rise condos!

Got the cool clipper bow going on and gorgeous rear overhang!
When it's 400 feet long you can live with a little lost waterline!

That's the one that can't get out to sea without a bridge being dismantled..

Re: Bezo's new yacht

Hm... "The first images of what is thought to be Bezos' megayacht surfaced in October, showing it had three masts that wouldn't fit under the 131-foot clearance afforded by the bridge." Quoted from Yahoo News.!

These Dutchmen can be so intolerably inflexible! It's obviously utterly unreasonable to require a man like Bezos to have his builders remove the masts only to have to raise them again once his toy is out beyond the bridge, is het niet?

TP

Quite, not to mention a billionaire having to work outside in a boat yard in February to get his boat finished just like the rest of us.

Finally!! A super yacht that doesn’t suck. They usually bore me to tears. This is really something. I’d like to see a lot more of it.

And the mayor of Rotterdam says they have not given permission to dismantle the bridge :-) so far, even if Bezos would pay for it.

Looks like someone is good in bargaining.

Well...the Mayor knows Bezos has effectively unlimited funds and the Mayor has nothing to lose by saying "no"...so sit tight till the offer goes WAY up. [emoji6]

Re: Bezo's new yacht

I’m still absolutely baffled by all the reactions in the media. I guess I shouldn’t be given how the media is but I don’t really think Bezo’s is the driver behind getting this removed. He just signed a contract with Oceanco and the logistics are with them. They have built two other sailing yachts that were 86m and 106m long with the same issue. I wouldn’t be surprised if the plan all along was to step the masts after going under the bridge.

Re: Bezo's new yacht

It amazes me that people seem to put out some shade on Bezos because of this yacht. I'm betting that he doesnt own it until there is some kind of sea trial and handover from OCEANO. So until then, OCEANO has to get that beast down the river and out to sea. It aint Bezos's problem and it aint his boat.

The Mayor isnt dealing with Bezos, he's dealing with a local corporation OCEANO who employ his constituents, pay taxes and is part of the economy that he needs to be watchful of. If they have to modify the bridge to move the boat then it affects the whole reason he holds office.

Tilting at windmills. next there will be an entertainer who opens his/her pie hole about this.

This is how bad the media is… it’s Oceanco. Can’t even get the name right of the company they are trying to shame.

Re: Bezo's new yacht

Seems a deal has been reached

“Rotterdam to partly dismantle historic bridge for Jeff Bezos’s superyacht”

https://www.google.ie/amp/s/amp.theg...oss-superyacht

And yes they spelt the companies name correctly.

Re: Bezo's new yacht

I don't get it.

Boating to me is being responsible for assessing all factors, making judgement calls, and ensuring safe passage of our boat and family.

There is a sense of accomplishment and pride in that, and the learning never ends.

Building a ship like that, to be captained and crewed by payed staff, is nothing more than a kindergartener showing up to the sandbox with the biggest, shiniest toy.

Even if we had billions in the bank, we'd still have a boat we could handle ourselves.
