That's nothing. Here in the New Orleans area, when they first allowed gambling boats (I think you had to bribe governor Edwin Edwards to get a license, or so I remember it being reported) they supposedly had to sail to be allowed to gamble. One company (Circus-Circus IIRC) built a gambling boat that had to be built in 2 pieces, shipped past a floodgate, then assembled inside of a pretty small enclosed waterbody. Once assembled, it could not sail past the floodgates!

Re: Bezo's new yacht

could someone please pass me the grey poupon while I digest all this information...

let's face it....if we all had billions at our disposal, we'd likely come up with some crazy looking boats..

they must have known about the bridge before they even started building that boat...so obviously have some kind of plan in hand...

Re: Bezo's new yacht

What I want to know is, what do you do and where do you go in a 400-foot yacht?

It can't fit into the vast majority of marinas or anchorages, so he will be stuck docking in industrial ports, unless a cruise ship berth is empty. Won't that be fun, right next to the oil tanker and the container ship?

Maybe he can anchor offshore and dinghy in with his 50-footer.

You would think someone that wealthy would be over doing things to impress other people. Obviously not. I'm sire he loves the idea of an historic bridge being dismantled, JUST FOR HIM!

Re: Bezo's new yacht

The reason this kind of people have this kind of yacht for different reasons.

They want to impress, primarily business partners and people with influence.

They want to have a very comfortable place like home without sudden visitors and paparazzi (being on an anchorage helps).

Apart from that, after all what seems a lot of money to us is nothing to them.

There are other ways to get to ports than with these yachts themselves...

More media attention might not bring the designer the person who's name they dropped, but someone with a lot of money from a slightly lower level.
Still enough for a viable profject perhaps.

Clever marketing is very often akin to manipulating the media as well as the public

Btw. there are different types of fake news. There are those who are put in place directly as fake news, there are those who are put in place to mislead and there are those, perhaps the worst, who are facts but are only called fake to dislead.

One more, to produce clever renderings is a skill in its own.
Sometimes they show deliberately things which are not or even can not be reality to draw attention, spark discussions and further ideas.
And aircraft carrier converted to a yacht for example. Looks cool but is clearly fake.

If this purpose is obvious they may not even be fake but rather a base for open minded discussions.

Don't ask me how I know :-)

Picture if you will...my wife and I had been sea kayaking the BC coast for about 4 months, during which time I hadn't shaved or trimmed my beard.

I paddled up to a 60 foot (ish) motor yacht and caught the attention of the owner in the pilothouse. He opened the door, his pants finely creased, a white sweater tied around his neck, his hair perfectly presented and I asked him, "Pardon me. Do you have any Grey Poupon?"

We laughed our asses off. He was perplexed. We didn't stick around to find out if he'd ever seen that tv commercial or not.

The late Paul Allen and Charles Simony from Microsoft where/are into it.
Octopus & Skat were their respective yachts.
Well if you did design, you know how the industry is and how you will never see anything official. His support vessel has already launched. You will see something from Northern Europe similar in size as Bezo’s in about two years. It’s not that hydrogen design from Sinot that went out a couple years ago but about when the contract was signed.

I thought Bezos was smart, but this ugly pig proves he isn't.

Interesting to read this, sometimes a new wife, not sure if he has found one yet, brings along new ideas...

Well the contract was signed before the divorce was announced. I’d expect to see the hull transferred for finishing this year.

Bezo's new yacht

I think it’s great. Employment etc.
Great stuff. It’s not his spending that annoys me. It’s the principle of letting small numbers of people acquire such wealth in the first place.

Anyone for Cake ….yum yum

Re: Bezo's new yacht

I spent a month at Porto Montenegro last summer. Black Pearl and Scheherazade were both there. Im sure that there is room for this one too. Big boats with lots of beautiful people in blue shorts and white polos running around polishing things and smiling. I'll gladly let Jeff tie up in the same marina as I.
