Great thread, thanks for posting. I know it takes a bit of work to do worth it though because they are always very interesting to read. Do let us know the name - we will be heading to the Med next year and I will keep a lookout!

What an impressive yacht! I'm very impressed with Amel. Looks to me like you made an excellent choice. And the 'fake' teak decks looked quite good, in fact.

Not much worse that recently retired or new-found money buying a large boat thinking they'll just "figure it out". These are the morons who cause all sorts of problems, but of course it's always somebody else's fault.

I do share your interest in well-built, reliable boats. I never stop enjoying the quality of my Najad, the only thing I would change if it would make sense is the teak deck - it’s now 18 year old and ageing a bit :-/ So all good choices made by Amel indeed. [emoji106]

Thank you! We are struggling with the name... We made a commitment to decide by the end of the year. I will let you know. We'll start from La Rochelle end of May 2019 and go East. No other solid plans yet. I have all the pilot books already and I am researching. Any input is welcome!

Thank you! We like the 'fake' teak also. It is a signature Amel item to simplify maintenance. I forgot to mention that Amel will use King Starboard on our boat, instead of teak, for the seats/steps, outside the cockpit. I replaced the stock Lagoon wooden bow seats with King Starboard and they were perfect. Very easy to make using the stock parts as a pattern.

Thank you! I am trying. One thing I love about sailing is that I learn something new every time I sail or talk to another sailor. When I was in the S. Pacific, I was so humbled by the knowledge of fellow cruisers. I was so 'green', it was funny... I always say, when I stop learning, I will be dead...

I cannot wait for the handover week. I've never done Med mooring before and twin rudders make going astern fun... Fortunately, the 50 has a strong bow thruster. I plan to take the boat apart to see and understand as much as possible.

The Amel 50 does not have any other insulation, other than the foam core and I do not know the thickness. I assumed, maybe incorrectly, that there is a standard thickness core that builders use.

When I was in La Rochelle about a month ago, at the Amel dock area, I saw an Amel 55 setup for cold climates. It had a reinforced (thicker) bow area around the waterline and a windshield wiper (which I took a picture of as it was an interesting add on). I did not write down the boat name.

It's good to hear that Amel is receptive to owners wanting a few changes during the build.

DeepFrz if you do happen to contact Amel about the coring, can you ask for the lamination schedule too? I'd love to hear what they are build the hulls with.

Great thread! Thanks for posting. Envious to say the least! I owe my PE firm for about an hour of their time back I've spent inspecting all of the cool features of the yacht and the factory. The Delos crew did a factory tour and interviewed some of the staff in this video blog

I only mention it because of your posts that look like they are supposed to be captions to pictures but there aren't any pictures.
