Re: Prepping?
hahahaha, seriously though unless you have a car before the 80's that has no computer chips you will be walking.
Interesting story. My wife used to be a buyer for Trader Joe's and we got to know the other large local super market next door. Turns out grocery stores now only carry about a two days supply of food on hand. They rely on the JIT (just in time) method for inventory control. This reduces money tied up sitting on the shelf of a warehouse behind the store and makes more efficient use of capital...........but make is very dependent upon frequent re-supply and technology to order.
So you may be walking to the shop only to find little to nothing on the shelf. We went through an earthquake in Palm Springs several years ago now that knocked out power, damaged a few small bridges, destroyed most of the inventory on grocery shelves. Well knocked it off breaking a whole lot of stuff, etc.
I figured if it had been much worse taking out roads we might not have gotten re-supply in too soon. It was at that time we started keeping a weeks worth of water and food at the house lol.
Oh well, at least no zombies right?

Really?
It won't be the initial issue (zombies, pandemic, emp etc) that get you. It's all your neighbors who aren't prepared for any type of issue and will run out of supplies in a day or two and not be able to restock at the store.
My first hurricane since moving to Florida was Matthews. I was surprised at the lack of preparation most did to protect their property (home owners and businesses). And visiting the few open restaurants I listened to everyone's stories. Set backs that we're first world problems and then real issues just ignored ("The store was out of water so we didn't have any extra" - Jane you would have if you would have filled up all the containers in your house from the faucet the day before, that's water too).

Re: Prepping?
Just read the news reports from Venezuela for real world examples of what to expect if things go unavoidably south where you live.

There most certainly will be Zombies. The government says so!

I am not afraid however, I have watched all the movies so I consider myself an expert.

Re: Prepping?
If you carry a spare water pump impeller or a tool box you are a prepper whether you like it or not. Don't forget the extra fuel filters. Some food and water goes a long way too. Best of luck to you. You go your way and I''l go mine.

Re: Prepping?
Well, we have come close to evacuating for forest fires a few times. Last summer, I did make sure the tanks were topped off and the galley was stocked. The only problem was that the most dangerous fire was bearing down from the direction of the marina. I was about to find new anchorage up-river, when the weather finally broke. I mean, it was to the point that half-burned fir needles were raining down all over the deck.

Re: Prepping?
Everyone should have a few days worth of food and water. And you need to consider the specific dangers of your own area -eg prevalence of forest fires or landslides.
Beyond that, your best prepping is to be trustworthy and to have friends.
If your prepping involves camo, MREs and weapons, you've probably listened to Alex Jones too often.

It is all a matter of degree:
A few fuel filters is far, far away from building an underground bunker with 3 years worth of canned and freeze dried food and automatic weapons, with children trained to use them, to keep the zombies away from your stash.
Don’t see the difference...?
