No…information changed over the last 2 days and the last 2 days has been a total whirlwind. So, who the hell are you?

To the skeptics :
I would not expect the man's timeline to be spot on. Hell I'd be surprised if he knew what year it is.
Answer me this skeptic. Would you explain how he got himself and boat to the Marshall's from Mexico for his hoax? I'm sure it would be in the budget of every Mexican fisherman.

Damn, sometimes you need to read the story besides looking at the picture. The doctor said that he suffered edema due his kidney problems He is also on the borderline anemic.

Please give him some credit and be happy for he is still alive. If I was in his situation for that long, I will most likely die or lose my mind permanently.

Funny... I though that when I saw all those big bellies in the Oxfam Biafra posters back in the 60's... how'd they get that fat...??

I don't think it a hoax anymore, so much as NOT the full story on what happened and how he got into trouble. Its very possible that he could drift 12-14 months to where he is.

Yet, some could make fancy stories up, such as a bad narcotics deal gone down, being transported west, stranded somewhere. Hardly plausible.

The simplest explanation is usually the correct one, ya?

I dont know, but he needs to be interviewed by a properly trained police investigator before I will believe it.

His story may well be true.

It may well be bunkum where his fishing boat has been put of another boat and transported. I dont know.

He may well have done it, but it appears rediculous and no one is interveiwing him in what may be a murder investigation.

Re: Man Washes up in Marshall Islands 'After 16 Months Adrift'

A small number of hand lines and tackle for a day trip could have been used up or lost after a few weeks at sea with constant use.

That could explain the lack of gear on a "fishing trip".

I also hope he is put on Suicide Watch with the onslaught of media attention and sensational reporting that will inevitably happen.

The guy is probably in a very fragile state and I suspect that he could use come good councilling

Mark, why does this appear "rediculous"?

For arguments sake lets say he did murder his shipmate. There would be no evidence what so ever to go off of to convict or question him. No body, no weapon, no autopsy. Only his word. Unless he came out with a full confession they have 0 to go off of.

Re: Man Washes up in Marshall Islands 'After 16 Months Adrift'

I have a feeling that if I stayed at sea for 6 months out of land sight, with good supplies, good weather, and my wife for company ................................ that if you started questioning me hard about details of my trip that I would be confused. Now if you took the supplies and wife away and tossed in weather exposure I could tell you ANYTHING you wanted to heard whether it was real of not.

Re: Man Washes up in Marshall Islands 'After 16 Months Adrift'

I taught desert survival for 30 years. It does not surprise me that his companion gave up. Out in the desert about 7 out of every 10 students give up and would die without assistance. The true survivors are always a very small minority.
However, I do not think he is telling the whole truth. Let me put it this way- if you are ripping turtle's heads off to get a few liters of blood to survive on and you have 8 liters of blood on the boat with you what are you going to do? I am not advocating what probably happened, but I do not judge him either. He will have to live with that experience the rest of his life. He survived. End of story.

I bet that if they put Columbo on the case, he'd figure this one in one 48 minute episode.
