Anchorage near entrance of C & D canal.

Before leaving Chesapeake want to spend night near canal entrance. Boat draws 7.5'. Recommendations? Thanks

We spent a night in Worton Creek. Not the creek, but outside.

Active Captain shows an anchorage in the mouth of the Bohemia River that may work. Called Ford anchorage.

If you go through the C&D there is an anchorage at Reedy Island. I would use the google search function in this forum to find more info about this anchorage first. I don't have personal experience.

I recently spent a few bad weather days and nights comfortably anchored at the mouth of the Bohemia River in 10-12' of water. Some chop depending on wind/current, but overall, a lovely anchorage. Nowhere to go ashore, the dock mentioned as a landmark in the guidebook is off-limits, and the entire shore is plastered with "no trespassing" signs. But it was very pretty, and you could just watch the ships and barges passing by at a safe distance of a half mile or more.

PS: There is a very strong tidal current in the C&D Canal. Use it, don't fight it.

Bohemia or Sassafras... or even the bight in Chesapeake City (although that doesn't meet your "before leaving" criterion).

The Sassafras River will offer you dozens of great anchorage options. Your draft won't be a problem. The Bohemia is another possibility but be careful with your 7 1/2 foot draft, it can be shallow. The basin into Chesapeake City will be close depending on tides. There is a bar part way across the entrance channel that shows 10 feet on the charts but we found 7 feet at low tide going in on our last trip. Inside the basin you will find 8 to 11 feet. Depending on wind conditions, there are a couple of places to anchor along the Elk River. Good luck. Chuck
