Makes you wonder why they can't just pick up a phone and call his family. And now the attention has gone from Mexico to El Salvador and the US.

More news about Jose Salvador Alvarenga.
Mr Alvarenga’s only serious pain was in his joints, while he appeared well fed.
No news about his friend Bubba.

It's all over our news here that he is too fat to have survived that long on so little.
Maybe he meant 1 month and not a year as they may have had trouble with the language translation :-)

Lot of stones being thrown.
How many days has everyone here drifted in the open with no power and supplies after panning for say a weekend trip? I believe that 30 days would make a good start before joining the lynch mob.

Does 43 days solo from Panama to Hilo count? This was a super slow crossing during a La Nina that suppressed the trades for weeks away from Panama. No long range 2X radio, so I was on my lonesome. Not enough rain or dew wet the decks to lick. If somebody was in a raft or a small boat without fresh water or a R/O filter pump and an EPIRB, they'd find his bones out there some day.
As far as I know, you can't survive for long on urine and sea water. I'm calling "doubtful" on his 14-16 months. At least a few months would have been with zero rain. Maybe he could catch turtles and fish like Steve Callahan in Adrift, but I don't think you could get enough water sucking out eyeball fluid to stay alive during the rainless spells.

Totally agree. There are more Sharks that need culling in this Forum than in W. Australia
If this was not a fisherman but instead a surviving cruiser, would you be so quick to imply cannibalism?
too many bottom feeders on this thread!
