OK guys, not just you Columbia zealots, but I'd appreciate anyone familiar with the Cape Dory's as well, please help me learn the pro's and con's comparing those two

Re: FREE, or close to free!

I’m on my second almost free boat. The first was a Cal 20 which I sailed for a year and sold cheap, just money spent on cleaning up. I now have. Niagara 31 which I paid $10.00 for. It is a good solid boat that just neede some love. I’ve had it for a year and my total investment is 1000 dollars and lots of elbo grease. I also have the pride of saving. Beautiful old lady from the scrap pile.

Niagara 31 for $10? So far I think you may be tied for first place for best deal ever.

Niagara 31 is really an excellent boat...quality build, and great sailing characteristics. You really did get a great boat. Must have been pretty dirty to get it for that price....any pics?

Re: FREE, or close to free!

This is one of the many boats I have looked at. The owner is an older man whos DR has told him no more sailing due to his health. The gelcoat is shot. You'd need to plane it down. Thats the bad part. The good part is the rest of the boat is in pretty damn good shape. I found no soft spots on deck, the cabin is what it is for a boat of this age. He does keep it under a tarp, not just out in the elements... He was offered $500 by a scrapper for the keel. I can't take this boat right now or I would. Sorry, I didn't think to take pictures, and the ones he had up previously werent very good.

Certainly a nice looking boat, I would be torn between taking that over the Albin Vega though. To bad your not ready for a boat yet, its raining beautiful classics. Every week I am trying to focus on my C29 project and not buy a second boat!

I'm working on a better work space for whatever I end up with. Trying to locate something closer to water, and affordable.

I understand. If we didn't have the land and the trailer, plus the truck things wouldn't have come together so easily for us. Its a big project for sure with a lot of moving pieces.

It was, is very dirty. Lots of mood inside no cushions and the stove went in the trash. The logic was the guy had it a place where he had to 15k fees for the year or get the boat out. No one was making offers and he one said anybody tgat will give me 10 bucks can have. My cousin reached in his pocket and handed him 10 called me said I bought you a boat.
