Tempting!
If my wife sees this thread I’m toast.
There is a link in the plastic classics thread and social group to a refit of a Columbia 38. I think they spent over 70k on it not taking their hours into account. I think two or three guys did it. In the end they had a great boat, like new. Sailed it up to Alaska, Juneau or Sitka, can’t recall, where due to change of plans they sold it, I think for somewhere around 30k. If you get into this planning to SELL the boat, not so smart unless you love working on boats, which many do due the stress relieving benefits! But if you want the boat, where can you find a boat built like an old boat, new, for 70k? Ain’t gonna happen.
I keep thinking of the movie “Karate Kid” where Mr. Miyagi has all those great old cars he has restored waiting in the yard. I want to be the one who gets to pick one!!

I see a plug for a mold if it is still straight. It looks like it may be. What a beautiful boat.
Edit: oh wait I take it back the stern may be hanging.
Museum restoration project perhaps

Re: FREE, or close to free!

You mean that whacky museum partnership shopping for a big trailer to get started?

I hope our sponsor's pockets are very deep!

Something interesting.... Roberts design 25' pilot house. I may go for a ride to check it out just because I've never seen one.

This one really got my attention. I hadn't ever seen one or heard of one, so after some digging I found one for sale in Australia for 45k hahah. But here is the description just to give us an idea of the general layout of the Roberts 25.

"The pilot house design is a rare find- standing headroom of 6ft 8ins - where else can you find that in a trailerable yacht!! The Roberts Pilot House gives you a very comfortable cruising yacht with design features that are practical, useable and spacious- You certainly won't feel cramped with 6ft 8ins headroom- there is generous accommodation in 1 double and 3 singles, separate shower and toilet and a roomy cabin with well appointed galley".

Is there any interest in seeing videos of my boat shopping experiences? The good, bad, and ugly?

Way too much for wind and waves to get a hold of on that short waterline. How many people need 6'-8" standing headroom?

Re: FREE, or close to free!

30’ Catalina tall rig, $2250, worst pics I’ve ever seen in a c.l. ad.

https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwi/b...601071489.html

Seems to be in the water, given the way it looks wrapped in plastic and with a grad student living aboard I’m sure the neighbors will be happy to see it go.

Looks like a possible way to get sailing in a pretty serious boat for cheap.

Re: FREE, or close to free!

Hey if anyone that reads this has contacted an owner about a boat we highlighted here, or especially bought one of them, could you please let us know? I'd love to see some good other than shopping fun come from this! Thank you!
