Dinghy anchors

This post is not constructive, I just wanna complain about the dinghy anchor no longer being made in galvanized steel.

There. I feel better already.

Re: Dinghy anchors

Likely didn’t sell many, mine is SS. Mostly because I like the way it packs down small, and comes in a very high quality dry storage bag.
The galvanized I don’t believe does any of that.

I have a 2.2lb lewmar Claw for my dinghy, which is galvanized:

What is wrong with SS?

Re: Dinghy anchors

I have a galvanized Mantus dinghy anchor from the first commercial run. It does not need to be disassembled because it has no roll bar. When pitched into the water it lands on its back one time out of ten. It will not roll over and must be retrieved and tossed again. Otherwise, it is a great anchor.

$$ I’m sure. I mean it’s just an anchor, does it have to be pretty too?

Re: Dinghy anchors

My Commando anchor is a perfect setup for my application.

It is all stowed away, nice and clean, in a great bag, w/ exterior Velcro mounting straps that grab on nicely to the inwale on my dinghy.

But they are, just didn't sell well in the US. Check up some international online shops.

Yeah, especially if it's not going to be displayed on a roller for all the world to see!

To show just HOW displeased I am, I have just ordered one in stainless. Are you listening, Greg?? The people have spoken!!

Re: Dinghy anchors

We use a dinghy anchor on the stern to prevent going under docks. 2.5 # galvanized Danforth. Find these and other styles, galvanized, all over the Caribbean. I also find in We$t and other chandlers in the midwest. Galvanized is no problem. I wouldn’t want SS because I’d worry about theft.

Re: Dinghy anchors

Had one of the original galvanized dinghy anchors but my son-in-law stole it for his new dink so I bought a new one and it came in SS. Not sure yet but I think I don't care one way or the other, probably?

I do like the cute bag that came with the new one.

It's a very good solution. Perfect for me too.

Re: Dinghy anchors

Few cruisers use a Fortress as their bower anchor. It does not do well in all bottoms, it can pop out if the wind or tide change, and it will not reset.

How is this different for a dinghy?

(I have used both Guardian, Lewmar Claw, Mantus anchors on dinghies for many years.)

Mantus will have the top seat until Rocna, Manson, or another manufacture decides to offer a down-size product. Seems like it would be a smart sales leader, to me.

The difference comes from the different way I use my dinghy anchor. The boat's anchor is dropped onto a bottom I many times can not see, then the boat is left without an anchor watch for long periods while I sleep or go ashore. The dinghy's anchor is set into a sandy beach by hand, dropped astern to hold the dinghy off a dock or sea wall, or used for a short period while I snorkel nearby after checking the anchor set from 2 feet away. That said, I have both a Mantus Dinghy Anchor (the lamented one piece less expensive galvanized one) and a Lewmar Claw.

Tried a Fortress 7 but the thing has too many spiky sharp edges to use in an inflatable. Went for a tiny Bruce in the end.

I did give you a link to a galvanized dinghy anchor. Is it that you're looking for a specific type of anchor??

Otherwise, this makes little sense. I'm also not at all clear how "the people have spoken here". I don't see overwhelming demand in the replies.
