Years ago I remember cases of Police officers getting cancer from their Radar guns, they would put them in their lap when not actually using them to clock traffic speeds, and apparently even though the trigger wasn't pulled, they were still emitting some RF, or at least that is what I remember, so I did a google search and came up with this, seems authentic to me.

Bottom line, why take the chance, when you don't have to? Mount the thing so that you are out of the "beam"
