Re: WeatherFax ...
Hi Rick,
I am afraid no.... They reorganized everything a while ago and I do not believe, they will change it just for our usage. Also, looking at the different offerings, the "real" professional services they offer are not for free. A little bit different to good old NOAA....
You can find the maps I referred to at: https://www.dwd.de/DE/leistungen/hob...html?nn=392762
From there on you have to click through the menues. ...
Best regards, Uwe - and Happy New Year to you and all the phantastic folks of OpenCPN development and support ....

Re: WeatherFax ...
I disagree, they look like static links to me: 24h and 48h forecasts
Code:
24h forecast: https://www.dwd.de/DWD/wetter/wv_spez/hobbymet/wetterkarten/ico_tkboden_na_024.png
48h forecast: https://www.dwd.de/DWD/wetter/wv_spez/hobbymet/wetterkarten/ico_tkboden_na_048.png
60h forecast: https://www.dwd.de/DWD/wetter/wv_spez/hobbymet/wetterkarten/ico_tkboden_na_060.png
108h forecast: https://www.dwd.de/DWD/wetter/wv_spez/hobbymet/wetterkarten/ico_tkboden_na_108.png
Rick, I think you removed the DWD because they switched from http to https and then the original links didn't work anymore. I can't find my old post (maybe on github?) but when replacing http with https the links worked again.

Re: WeatherFax ...
Actually I believe I did make that change that you suggested Leasonlife. Thanks.
It is in the most recent version. People should get it from downloads.
Here is what I have now. If there are any other good static URL weatherfax that we do not have, people are encouraged to send them in. Include the Met Office, URL's with the Title in english.
I was wrong we do have DWD and more than shown here.
We do need good static URL for UK Met! We need better European Coverage and have lost India and several others to changes to dynamic URL naming.

Re: WeatherFax ...
Rick, could you double check the calibration for the Bermuda files, they are off by a bit and despite good instructions above to calibrate polar weather faxes, I fail to get the calibration right..
Thanks

Re: WeatherFax ...
Dirk,
The Bermuda guys are never consistent I think. They were all the same now the green one is different and requires a new coord. See pic attached. It could be conic, but polar seems to work best. I don't have the equator right still, but it is pretty close. My eyes don't see all the polar coords, so I have to guess or count, and they don't make it easy for use either.
---------------------
Image Coord - Bermuda - Bermuda -1 <--- use this for the ones other than the green surf analysis.
See the first Pic. (all the white ones use this image coord, so edit one, you fix them all.
Surface Analysis (Green) - This has to be given a new coord and separated out.
Image Coord - Pick a New Cood.
See screenshot, horizontals aren't straight. Perhaps you can get it right?
Next release I'll include this.

I think, Dirk is right. However, just going via the "normal" menues provided by DWD, I did not see these URLs. Following are the names of all forecast-maps you might want to use:
ico_bodendruck_welt_ana.png
ico_tkboden_na_024.png
ico_tkboden_na_036.png
ico_tkboden_na_048.png
ico_tkboden_na_060.png
ico_tkboden_na_084.png
ico_tkboden_na_108.png
ico_tkboden_na_V36.png
they need to be appended to the URL: https://www.dwd.de/DWD/wetter/wv_spe.../wetterkarten/
The numbers are the hours forecast, where the difference between "036" and "V36" is 36 hours forecast 12:00 UTC or 36 hours 00:00 UTC ....
"welt" stands for "world" ....
OK??
Hopefully this will remain for some future. The values, I provided in my earlier response should be close enough, to do a proper calibration.
Best regards,
Uwe - and thanks, Dirk, I definitely didn't see these URLs. ...

Re: WeatherFax ...
You can check the weatherinternetretieval.xml for these urls. I believe they exist.

Re: WeatherFax ...
They do exist plus more (500mb charts), I worked with Rick on this a few moons ago.
See screenshot, all there, except for the 36v, the second 36h, which is initialized at 12z not 00z.
the 500mb charts need a new calibration though. The surface forecasts are calibrated reasonably well.

Re: WeatherFax ...
Thanks Dirk. I'll be using checking this thread when doing an update.
For everybody's information: The weatherfax files must be user maintained:
I have said that I would do all of NOAA, but rely on others to provide the changes for the rest of the world. The changes should be in the most digestible format possible. (attaching your weatherroutinginternetretrieval file and the coordinatesets.xml file along with your usercoordinates.xml file might be the best way, while also stating exactly which ones had changed.

Re: WeatherFax ...
alright, Rick and Dirk. .....
I have to say, I have learned a lot and I am happy to have gone through this now with all of your information:
1. Yes, Dirk is right, these are obviosuly fixed URLs for the German Weather service.
2. Yes, Rick is right, the URLs are in the Weatherfaxinformation.xml.
3. However, I did not find any calibration data for these and therefore did the calibration myself.
If anybody wants to use these charts and does NOT have any calibration data available, you can use the following:
a. The "big" analysis chart (Surface Analysis (4MB)) first select "Polar" projection, then you should click at the upper left part at 50°N, 060°W and enter 50 / - 60 under Lat/Long.
Then for the lower right corner take the 30°N, 030°E point (Enter 30 /30 under lat/Long)
Then and this is important!! set the size to 0.4 (this is at the bottom next to the word "Mercator")
Then enter into Pol X 2792 and Pol Y -615 .... Check, wether the blue lines match the 50th and 30th parallel, otherwise manipulate them by increasing and/ordecresing the values in either Pol X and Pol Y.
Then enter next and after the calculation enter finish (the menu buttons should be visible at the bottom of the window....
This should do. The values are saved in the coordinates.xml for later use.
b. For the smaller charts (24hr to 108hr forecasts there is no size correction necessara, you should just select polar projection. As reference points I used again 50°N;060°W and for the lower right 40°N;040°E. Pol X I used a value of 508, Pol Y -108. With these starting values you might want to adjust those to the best fitting projection....
I will try to add my Coordinats.xml here, so - if this is ok, Rick might distribute them or add them to any future weatherfax package ....
I renamed it to .XLS, it should be renamed back to .XML ....
All the best,
Uwe

Re: WeatherFax ...
Hi Uwe,
I'm not sure what version of weatherfax you're testing, but normally the DWD coordinates are already present in Sean's repo (I did them a few weeks ago).
If you don't have the latest version, you can manually get the files from Sean's repo ( https://github.com/seandepagnier/wea...dinateSets.xml and https://github.com/seandepagnier/wea...tRetrieval.xml and overwrite yours), then test.
If the coordinates are wrong, of course, feel free to submit a better version !
Stelian.

Re: WeatherFax ...
Stelian, I have merged your huge fixes and Sean's changes with my work on the XML's. I believe the most recent version is here (29 days old):
https://github.com/rgleason/weatherfax_pi/releases
Weatherfax_pi-1.7007-ov4.2-win32.exe
Which is where the website Downloads for Weatherfax for windows goes.

Re: WeatherFax ...
Uwe,
This coordinetsets.xml attachment is good. It starts to get to a way to make these changes more easily. Notice at the bottom of this file are two records
Quote:
<Coordinate Name="German Weather(DWD) - European - A" X1="230" Y1="1698" Lat1="50.00000" Lon1="-60.00000" X2="2990" Y2="2273" Lat2="30.00000" Lon2="30.00000" Mapping="Polar" InputPoleX="2792" InputPoleY="-615" InputEquator="0.00000" InputTrueRatio="1.0000" MappingMultiplier="0.4000" MappingRatio="1.0000" />
<Coordinate Name="German Weather(DWD) - European - B" X1="105" Y1="908" Lat1="50.00000" Lon1="-60.00000" X2="1510" Y2="1071" Lat2="40.00000" Lon2="40.00000" Mapping="Polar" InputPoleX="507" InputPoleY="-108" InputEquator="0.00000" InputTrueRatio="1.0000" MappingMultiplier="1.0000" MappingRatio="1.0000" />
|
That is what we need.
Now if you were required to add a "New Coord" because the Met Office had added a new different coordinateset, we would then need to know which one of your usercoordinatesets.xml records would apply, and we would need that record too. We would then have to add that coordinateset as
"German Weather(DWD) - European - C" (into coordinatesets.xml with the correct record from the usercoordinateset.xml to provide the necessary information
Also a few changes would need to be made in the weatherfaxinternetretrieval.xml file.
Does this make sense to you?
I'd like to find a way to have this work, making changes easily.

CarstenWL, sorry not here. Why not learn how and provide Mac users that assistance?
Nohal and Gerhard might help you.
