Re: Swedish oeSENC charts to come - with our help.

Bertil..
Nice to hear you're about to find a good way to use OpenCPN like so many others.
The +/- keys are good and on a SE-keyboard the PgUp/PgDown keys are even more reachable. Try them.

The Finland charts are even more detailed than the Swedish. So, there you've to be careful how to use the zoom scale factor. A hint to a smooth adjustment: With the cursor over a ENC/oeSENC chart: hit the key "D" and the adjustment tool is shown. Another "D" will close it after use.

Good luck

Re: Swedish oeSENC charts to come - with our help.

Thanks again Håkan for good practical hints.

OpenCpn is really both powerful and very flexible.
It might be the flexibility that makes kind of hard for a beginner to catch up quickly.

I'm gradually reading through all the UM-chapters to get up to speed.

I must say, the scale/detail setting is probably one of the best features I've came across for ages.
I had MaxSea with vector charts started some twenty rears ago and at that time it could manage an overview scale without making most of the useful water in blue color (should be avoided..). Very useful for planning.

I guess s53 conform scares most of the plotter vendors to be flexible on this point.

But in OpenCpn, this setting if flexible so especially in the Swedish high density island areas, it's still possible to get a clue if it's possible to go there or not, just by the overview color thanks to the setting options.

Exactly this point I'm allways checking when there are new gear on the market and the reply is most often "it's not required".

Again thanks for your support.

Re: Swedish oeSENC charts to come - with our help.

Bertil,
one more hint to make the colours 'Swedish' (this for Linux but should be useful nevertheless:
- Download the archive 'Swedish Style' from 'https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/info/vectorpalette.html'
- Go to '/usr/share/opencpn/s57data/' and safetycopy 'chartsymbols.xml' plus 'rastersymbols-day.png' adding the extension '.bak'
- Extract the file 's57data.zip' and replace the renamed files with the files from the archive.
- Resrtart OpenCPN end enjoy

Thanks Lennart.
Actually I did already and got a good "look & feel" now for our area.

Any hints of getting the maps for the "missing" baltic coutries are welcome.

Bertil..

"missing Baltic countries": Latvia and Lithuania. All the others are available.

With both we tried and had no success up to now to get access to their charts. Beside using S-63 of course.

If somebody local or with local contacts wants to help, then this help would be very welcome.

Don't forget Russia in the eastern part of Gulf of Finland as well as the enclave around Kaliningrad.

Who from our OCPN users sails there? Really, out of curiosity...

Russian charts might be another challenge. Somebody knows about licensing conditions?
