oeSENC vector charts for OCPN - new plug-in version 1.2

The plug-in for oeSENC vector charts has been updated to version 1.2

The experiences from the numerous group of users since the first publishing of the plug-in and the chart sets 6 weeks ago has allowed us to gather additional information to make the use of the plug-in more robust for some user groups and scenarios.

We are now confident that W10 updates, that do present the PC as a different system, will not invalid license keys anymore in the future.
The last wave of W10 updates provided sufficient examples to analyze and adopt to the procedures MS is using.
The warning concerning the use of the oeSENC plug-in in the context of W10 is cancelled.

Linux versions will be as well more tolerant with respect to certain changes of configurations than in the past.

Chart sets created with oeSENC 1.0 will run under 1.2 - no action required.

The new versions are available from the usual download sites at opencpn.org and from the PPA for Linux system.

A big thank you for all who contributed information and valuable testing efforts during the implementation of the update!

The contracts are signed since 5 weeks but there is now an administrative problem.

SHOM? - will this include French Polynesia?

It will start with France Atlantic (Channel and Bay of Biscay), filling the gap between Belgium, UK and Spain and France Med (Spain-Italy plus Corse).
And some charts completing the Spanish chart set with large scale charts for parts of Marroque.

DOMTOM will have to wait for the moment. Not only Polynesia, but also the Caribbean.

Great news, that, together with improved robustness against W10 updates, makes me think that I better wait until the administrative burden has worn out (May is particularly bad for that in France) and switch to oeSENC from S-63, which BTW saw its install permit killed by the latest "creator" (?) W10 update. Having said that, making short rentals of S-63 charts from ChartWorld for places one visits propably once in a lifetime is an unexpensive option I like: do you have plans to port the more robust computer ID algorithm of oeSENC to S-63 plugin?

Can't see the oesenc plugin in the PI (trusty) list


trying to understand I found that in the PPA the build is reported as failed for some ARM versions.

It is this the reason or I miss something?

Great plugin and big step forward!

The failed build is for ARM64, an architecture we have not seen in the wild yet.

I have had a horrendous couple of days trying to get oeSENC charts up and running under Ubuntu, going round and round, the problem being the download and installation of the oeSENC plugin.

sudo apt-add-repository kept returning errors to all combinations that I tried, some of which prefixed the repository name with ubuntu.

Finally I looked at /etc/apt/sources.list (no change in this case) but sources.list.d contained the file used to download opencpn.

To this file I added the second line below (with a small hint from Renate at o-charts to use '-' befpre pi instead of '_'

deb Index of /opencpn/opencpn/ubuntu xenial main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/opencpn/ope...senc-pi/ubuntu xenial main

sudo apt-get install oesenc-pi

now worked!

My W10 OS underwent a major update yesterday, and since then I get the following message when opening Open CPN

(see attached screen capture)


I am using the 1.2 plugin, so it seems it has not fixed the problem with W10 updates.
Looks like I will need to request a new User Key, unless there is another fix.

with the latest version of the plug-in you will need to "sacrifice" one back-up and from then on, this should be stable under W10.
It can't be retro-active, as your chart set has been created still with the former W10 environment (I suppose and would hope)

If this is not the case we can check your system identifier files. The latest ones start with oc03W...
If you created your chart set with a former version of the plug-in and hence SystemIdentifierFile, a new chart set will be required.

The original identifier was created with the older version of the plug in.
