Hi Nohal,

I am using NMEA over TCP through a Vesper XB800 - they say that the data they passthrough is in NMEA0183, so thats no the problem.

I have added the Wind sentences to OpenCPN since they didnt seem to be listed explicitly?

Re: Plugin Polar

Hello all,

I am writing a web page, in the website opencpn.fr, about the Polar plugin

I am looking for a sufficient VDR file, rich in data, usable with this plugin.

Would someone have such a file and would he agree to give it to me?

Thank you in advance.

Gille
Use any of the Polar files that you want from weather_routing_pi to help illustrate use.

RGLeason, I'm not sure I understand what you wrote. I understand that you propose to use a polar files contained in the folder WR.

No, I do not want a polar file already made. I want to make a polar, or many polars. And precisely, for this, the Polar plugin seems to propose 4 methods. And among these 4 methods, there is the mode "Reading a VDR file";
So, I need a file, recorded on a boat, by VDR and having, within it, the data useful to Polar.

And with this VDR file, I will make the plugin work. This will allow me to better understand what he is doing and to be able to explain it in the French tutorial.

Re: Plugin Polar

Got it. I have several of those files. Let me find them.

Try Sample2.txt from here. I have several others.

Also using the same login, find the "nmea" directory and then download any of the "Hartmut...." files some are bigger than others.
That should give you something to work with.

G ...

What about using shipdriver_pi, with the sail mode. VDR wiill record the wind on any number of courses. Would be interesting to compare the polar you make with the "polar" of the program.

This is a good idea, and I hope Gille can do that on board to test out Shipdriver.

Just to note that Polar_pi will also record and that should be checked out too.

I thought gille wanted a way to test out the plugin now.

Surrealist ... I have a lot of VDR files ... But I have very little instrument on my boat ... I only have GPS and AIS information ... So the information, needed for Polar, are not in my many VDR files

And therefore, all the ideas of comparison are beautiful but they are only dreams ...

The attached is a small test with a VDR file from ShipDriver.

BigAl.NZ ...

The published version of Polar_pi does not allow recording from NMEA. You would need to make a VDR recording first and then load that file.

Re: Plugin Polar

Hi Folks,

I have managed to compile an ov50 version of the polar_pi plugin for macOS(64)
- using pr#12, no success with Ubuntu Studio without some fixing to be undertaken.

The wx FormBuilder for wxWidgets 3.1.2 cannot be used to make any changes to the GUI atm as it breaks a few things....

I have made a couple of minor changes most notable is the polar display background color, I change it so you can see the labels on the polar diagram as they are white. The other change is the default size of the polar window.

Please Take Particular Note: it is possible to crash OpenCPN5 with this plugin at present, when/if you select and open an incompatible format polar file for viewing.
This problem also is possible to achieve 0v48 (UbuntuStudio Linux)

https://github.com/scadaperspective/...08.macOS64.pkg

Enjoy

/Ron

Re: Plugin Polar

Hi Car Code

I'm and old retired electrical engineer. I am not use to people speaking to me abruptly.

I don't know you from a bar of soap.

You have been very impolite in how you have gone about asking for this information so forgive me for being curt.

Firstly it is polite for you to sign with you first name, since this is the first interaction we have ever had I use my real name as I have nothing to hide.....

With the exception of the two programs identified below you can access the official repository to view the source code of every other plugin and the core application along with these in the pre-built repository I have set up.

I was asked if I could help out. So I am.. Doing this takes me away from my projects....

I don't intend on replicating repositories for every prebuilt package as there are more than enough replications that are already able to confuse people that are end users. My intent is to help my fellow end users out by providing precompiled versions and nothing more.

Hopefully this answers your questions.

Have a good day.
/Ron

--------
Source code Changes with polar_pi

in PolarGui.cpp ...

m_panelPolar = new wxPanel( m_splitter1, wxID_ANY, wxDefaultPosition, wxDefaultSize, wxTAB_TRAVERSAL );
m_panelPolar->SetBackgroundColour( wxColour( 97, 97, 97 ) ); // changed color
m_panelPolar->SetMinSize( wxSize( 350,-1 ) ); //changed default min width

The Ship Driver source is only two clicks away...

Dear Ron,

On behalf of all Mac Users I would like to thank you for helping us out with Plugins for the MAC. You have made some significant inroads on the backlog of Mac Plugins. Bravo.

This is very much appreciated!

Re: Plugin Polar

Ron,
Do you want me to report this github "Issues" or do you want to?

I would probably make that "Issue" note here in ptulps repos

https://github.com/ptulp/polar_pi/issues

or in Tracker.

Thanks, let me know which way.
