There is an OpenCPN
v5.2 beta version of Polar_pi v188.8.131.52 available for testing here in cloudsmith opencpn/Polar download the appropriate tarball and use "import plugin". You may need to close and restart Opencpn
to get it working right (please let me know if this is necessary, first time users!)
- I find that "Data from VDR" works nicely most of the time if it is the right kind of file.
- I find that "Data from NMEA" fails frequently when I try to load what I think is a nmea file, don't know what the problem is or if I am using this wrong. The failure closes Opencpn immediately. Any experiences/information about this would be appreciated.
- "Data from Logbook" I need to get logbook working so we can test this too.

"Data from VDR" files that work
Please report your testing here. Thank you
Basically Polar_pi reads files created from Logbook Konni, nmea
and vdr and creates a polar file from the data. Keep in mind that if the data has been recorded while the engine
has been used, that a true polar will not be created!
Power Boat Weather Routing
Note that power boats could use this to create polar files too, for performance into the wind
, with the wind and across the wind. Which could help with routing predictions using grib files for power boats too.
Sail under Power Weather Routing
(Sean does not approve of this use, for good reasons)
Additionally, sailboats can have a separate polar file for the use of power, which can be added to a "boat" file in weather_routing_pi which will kick in and be used when the wind drops and boat speed suffers, such that the power polar file is used and "assumed" as the best "set of sails" for that condition.
