I would probably make that "Issue" note here in ptulps repos

https://github.com/ptulp/polar_pi/issues

or in Tracker.

Thanks, let me know which way.
Hi

Im happy to load it into girhub sounds like the way forward

I found my flyspray login i will see if it works for the future...

Ideally id like to say and heres a possible fix. Or help narrow it down a bit more

A couple of other apps do some file select and access stuff so there might be some code to handle it or some clues ?

Ive never had it working on mac before previously only linux so that is excellent as far as i am concerned.

/Ron

Re: Plugin Polar

Is there a database for collecting polars for baseline boats? I have been working on the polars for my boat and a few other in the local club fleet

Re: Plugin Polar

We have built the main repository of polars in weather_routing_pi, located so that they can be easily selected and used.

If you have valid and tested polars that you feel should be added to that list, please upload them here or, perhaps better, in the main weather_routing thread.

Here is an interesting polar analysis and python software.

Some good graphs.

Re: Plugin Polar

There is an OpenCPN v5.2 beta version of Polar_pi v1.1.15.1 available for testing here in cloudsmith opencpn/Polar download the appropriate tarball and use "import plugin". You may need to close and restart Opencpn to get it working right (please let me know if this is necessary, first time users!)
https://cloudsmith.io/~opencpn/repos...1.15.1*tarball
  1. I find that "Data from VDR" works nicely most of the time if it is the right kind of file.
  2. I find that "Data from NMEA" fails frequently when I try to load what I think is a nmea file, don't know what the problem is or if I am using this wrong. The failure closes Opencpn immediately. Any experiences/information about this would be appreciated.
  3. "Data from Logbook" I need to get logbook working so we can test this too.
See this zip file for some Wind "Data from VDR" files that work. https://cloudsmith.io/~opencpn/repos...ckages/?q=Wind

Please report your testing here. Thank you

Summary
Basically Polar_pi reads files created from Logbook Konni, nmea and vdr and creates a polar file from the data. Keep in mind that if the data has been recorded while the engine has been used, that a true polar will not be created!

Power Boat Weather Routing
Note that power boats could use this to create polar files too, for performance into the wind, with the wind and across the wind. Which could help with routing predictions using grib files for power boats too.

Sail under Power Weather Routing
(Sean does not approve of this use, for good reasons)
Additionally, sailboats can have a separate polar file for the use of power, which can be added to a "boat" file in weather_routing_pi which will kick in and be used when the wind drops and boat speed suffers, such that the power polar file is used and "assumed" as the best "set of sails" for that condition.

Re: Plugin Polar

I realize now, that the "Data from NMEA" selection, has a button down at the bottom
"Start Recording" and the way this works is to read the NMEA data stream coming into OpenCPN.

So one approach if you want to test this data selection is to run VDRplayer with a "wind" recording and then in Polar_pi, select "Data from NMEA" and then hit "Start Recording", then at some point "Stop Recording" and then you can save the file.

I don't think that we are supposed to be able to "Load" NMEA data and that should be greyed out so it is not useable. I don't think works and it crashes Opencpn. What do you all think?

Using "Data from NMEA" with VDRplayer running a "Wind" recording.

Re: Plugin Polar

Works as expected. I'd say it's ready. Install worked fine.
