Hi all...
The downloads for all the platforms are now available directly from PlugIns | Official OpenCPN Homepage

Enjoy

Re: Plugin Polar

Rgleason,

I saw your remark on FS#1813 - Polar can create file with lines of Zeros in the Tracker.
I am on vacation now and don't have the ability to code at the moment.
However before I left I think I fixed the problem.
Could you get the github code from ptulp/polar_pi and compile it and see if it fixes the problem?
This is for the O 4.1 stream.

Peter

Re: Plugin Polar

Peter, just compiled the new version and ran it. When you load or open a file with full lines of zeros (Max-Sea) and then Save it to a new name, the lines with zeros are removed. Thank you. These polars without lines of zeros should work with Weather_routing_pi now.

There will be another note in weather_routing_pi about this.

Here is the file that was converted as an example.

Thank you Peter! Sorry it took me awhile to get to this. Happy Sailing.

Re: Plugin Polar

Polar_pi has been updated to remove intermediate lines of zeros in the pol files that weather_routing_pi cannot process.

This new version of the Polar_pi plugin has been uploaded to
Opencpn Beta File Thingie rguser rgpass
4.1.602 PI Win Directory
Find polar_pi-1.1006-ov4.1.602-win32

It can be used with Opencpn v4.1.602 and greater.

Re: Plugin Polar

Hi,

Based on the data I got from the ORC database, they also measure at an angle of 52,5degr. Tried to modify the .pol-file outside the plugin, but the value of 52.5degr doesn't show, nor does 52degr. Which seems logical taken the way it is programmed in consideration.

Is there by any change a possibility to enter polar values in less than 5degr-steps? Especially for the close wind values this looks more obvious, knowing the polar is used in the Tactics_pi.

Please see attached picture for details explanation.

Did you setup the PPA as described here?

Yes thank you for the answer but ppa was already set - found the problem as the error message indicated I used the wrong install syntax, taking the instruction literally (sudo apt-get) install package opencpn-plugin-polar

The correct install syntax (link) is:

sudo apt-get install opencpn-plugin-polar

Re: Plugin Polar

I've created an Excel spreadsheet that shows how to fix and improve your polars for use with Weather Routing. It requires modification by hand using Excel formulas and tools. Each tab shows a single step for modification of your polar.

Please remove the ".pdf" to turn it into a Spreadsheet file!

Hopefully this will just augment the tools you have with Polar_pi and those in WeatherRouting.

Re: Plugin Polar

Peter has updated the Polar_pi to eliminate the writing of columns of zeros (except the first TWA=0 column of zeros) which stump Weather_routing.

This has been uploaded to OpenCPN File Thingie rguser, rgpass
under 4.6.1 PI Win directory find file

polar_pi-1.1008-win32.exe was uploaded.

Thank you Peter!

Incomplete Polar Files (stop at 50 and 150 degrees)

Sean just wrote, saying

"There are many polars which only define up to 150 degrees.. The WR plugin simply should not route at course angles beyond what are defined in the polar. Am I mistaken?"

We agreed with him and did another test on C_C34.pol which ends at about 50 and 150 degrees and results in "Polar:failed" with no routing. A modified polar C_C34-2.pol which completes the diagram does complete a routing successfully.

Currently polar files that define a polar only to 50 or 150 degrees will fail. Hopefully this will be fixed.

Re: Plugin Polar

Is there a way to make the polar plugin work with a N2K network? We don't have NMEA.

You need to convert the N2K data to NMEA0183 either using something like Actisense NGW-1 or for example SignalK server with a cheaper CAN bus adapter.

Re: Plugin Polar

Or the OpenCPN TwoCan plugin.
Refer to the OpenCPN Manual, Developer Guide, beta plugins.
