OpenCPN.org Announcement

OpenCPN.org is online. You will find a documentation wiki on the site. For those of you who do not know what a wiki is. It simply means that part of the site can be easily edited by everyone (you).

So, this is your chance to help the great OpenCPN community by contributing a little bit of your own personal expertise.

Also, all beta and stable releases will be posted to the download section of the site from now on.

This thread is reserved for help with the site wiki and ideas pertaining to opencpn.org. If you have a good idea for the site and are willing to help make it happen, please let me know. Happy wiki editing and New Year!

Thank you Jerry and SouthBay Network for donating the server and bandwidth for http://opencpn.org !

When I try to create an account with the same name I get

The name gmau is already taken.
The e-mail address gmau@hotmail.com is already registered. Have you forgotten your password?

A quik note of congratulations to a continuing job well done. I had a folder full of individual charts and never figured I'd use them much... boy what a surprise when I pointed the program to that folder and it spent about 5 minutes recognizing them all!
I was able to zoom from coast to coast and every place in between I had a chart downloaded for. Outstanding and simple. Next step is to go GPS on the laptop and see how it follows. I'm sure I won't be disappointed.
Once again, thank you so much for a program of open source programming. It can only get better for all of us.

Manimaul !

You are doing a great job with the website - congratulations.

I edited and added a bit to the wiki today, for the first time.

My Firefox spell checking did nor work while editing, but works in the log frame. Any chance of changing this, or add built in spell-checking ?

Is there any chance of getting one of the OS issue trackers integrated into the website? Like flyspray (used on archlinux.org) or bugzilla (used at bugs.gnome.org) for example?

That's not a bad idea. Issues are currently (half-heartedly) tracked mostly on these threads. It may indeed be clever to get them all together in one place. There's a tracker at sourceforge which could serve for this purpose.

I agree. The OpenCPN sourceforge site is already set up for full bug and feature request tracking. I'm not sure why we're not using that. It's easier to track over time there than in threads here, and doesn't even require sourceforge accounts to submit bugs or check for them. It does help having an account - then you'll be notified of status changes for your favorite requests.

Is there a reason we're not using that more? If folks agree and would use it, we might put a link to the tracker area in opencpn.org.

Bugs and Features....

Mark et al....

The reason we have not been seriously using the sourceforge trackers is simply that the sourceforge UI has been in flux recently, and IIRC was quite slow and tedious to use. Still is slow. Hopefully improving in the future.

So lets begin to move to the sourceforge trackers, with a link from our site. It will be easier for me in the long run, and hey, if we get some more programmers on the case, I can do some good old fashioned delegation

This means that everyone will need to wrack their brains to recover all the old low impact bugs and feature requests so that they can be entered into the new lists. Homework, too....

Dave

By-the-by....I have added Mark (Psyches) as a Developer to the opencpn sourceforge project. He will have full CVS and Tracker admin access, so is the go-to guy for sourceforge issues during my absence.

Kinda cool to see (by proxy) that there is definitely traffic to the new opencpn.org site. My site is getting several referrals from there every day. It now out performs bigdumboat.

Psyches, would you perhaps mark the feature requests that are already resolved as "closed" (tracking, zoom at pointer, distance/bearing) as well as the duplicate (garmin bluecharts)?

Thanks!
