Re: OpenCPN (Linux version) cannot receive GPS data

This is not the source code:

http://ppa/launchpad.net/opencpn/opencpn/ubuntu bionic main (Source Code)

double entree ?

You can install the package manager synaptic
sudo apt install synaptic (is perhaps allready available on your system)

start synaptic

sudo synaptic

then you can look at the sources. Settings, sources ppa.

then you can do seach for opencpn and you can see what is available and which version.

But first look if the server setting are correct. After changen something then do renew.

Re: OpenCPN (Linux version) cannot receive GPS data

Back to the question why GPSD wasn't working.......

Have a look in this file

Line 26 is commented out.

Remove the "#" from the beginning of the line and reboot.

With this change I got the gpsd to work.

Trying to go back to /dev/ttyUSB0 I had this message

which must be what the OP referred to.
I had no luck following these instructions, while LennartG's instructions in post #6 worked nicely.

I was also reminded of why I don't like gpsd. My BU353 now just spitted out garbage, and I had to reset it to NMEA mode with

sudo add-apt-repository ppapencpn/opencpn
sudo apt-get update
and updates (even OpenCPn) seemed to be downloaded correct.

In the Software&Updates application (Other Software) I can see:

http://ppa/launchpad.net/opencpn/opencpn/ubuntu bionic main (Source Code)

When I then start open OpenCPN I still have 4.99.1508

I have Ubunto 18.04.3 LTS. Shall I try with a later version?

After all that you have to go back to Ubuntu Software, or Synaptic, reload and look for updates for OpenCPN .

Re: OpenCPN (Linux version) cannot receive GPS data

Thanks Thomas.
Removing "#" in the 60-gpsd.rules file made gpsd to work!

After a reinstallation with the "Terminal" I also have the 5.0.0 version:
sudo apt-get install software-properties-common
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:opencpn/opencpn
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install opencpn

Would also like to add that the serial connection now works as well!
