Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2118 Released

Nathanni (not correct) re crash texture cache. I found it would crash a number of times but each time it would be making progress. The next time you restart the program would run through the cache checking and pick up where it failed then run until it crashed again creating the cache. I persisted and finally I had a 3.3gb cache that worked and the final time it completed normally. The cache seems to speed up scaling and panning quite a bit. I was using it on win7 dell Xps inspiron with n idea geforce 540m adapter.
I do not know what causes the crash yet. Maybe memory gets full?

I only have a few raster charts and some converted Google satellite images for my local area; The compression never completes (5 tries). I have never been able to create a cache on this particular machine.

Just wondering why.

Cheers,
JM.

That's helpful information are you sure it will not complete? I would like to know why it crashes too!

Try deleting cache. Close opencpn, then open and turn on texture cache. Then generate.

No luck, cleared cache, restarted O, switch from cm93 chart to raster, compression starts, then crash.

Sent a couple more crash dumps.

Thanks,
JM.

Sean...

re:
" at least 10 times more zoom than what is currently allowed."

Do you have a cm93 lat/lon that would illustrate your request?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

I don't think the particular chart is Important.

His example was to be able to overzoom in order to look at something like a route (not a detail on the chart).

I am finding that I can't zoom in far enough for my harbour charts to be automatically displayed.

Thanks,
JM.

Thomas...

re:
"There is another little thing that bugs me. The sorting does not work 100%"

This is a simple problem relating to sorting targets whose transmitted ship name starts with (space). Sigh....

Easy fix for next Beta.

Thanks
Dave

NahanniV....

I really don't like to guess at this stuff. The world is very big.

Two simple numbers, please. And picture if its not too much trouble.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2118 Released

The issues that I was having with raster charts vanishing on zoom etc.. previously reported seem to have disappeared with this version; good work. Windows 7, 64bit, Dell XPS 15, 7 core, intel graphics.. tested with OGL, on/off, tiling on/off etc..

I can over-zoom plenty enough to see my track through tight passages (see attachments ) I can zoom in it seems almost infinitely. This is using CM93, I can zoom to well beyond GPS accuracy, with raster charts I can't zoom infinitely but I get down to levels that exceed GPS accuracy.

NahanniV / JM

I looked at your crash dumps for texture compression failure.
Seems that this computer does not support the Intel SSE2 instruction set.
What type of machine/CPU is this?

Thanks
Dave

It looks as if the new Heading Predictor length is not saved to the config file yet.
