Release Beta 3.1.1319

Notes:

This will be (I hope) the last Beta before a Release Candidate is issued.
Please update and submit your final .po (language) files as available.

Also, please remind me if there were any one-time bugs lurking in the Forum that did not get properly addressed after all. Something might have gotten lost in the seams, and now is the time to catch everything we can think of.

Thanks, and good luck testing

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Win, Mac and the 32 & 64 bits Ubuntu versions are now available, sort of .....

BUT..... I have still no access to opencpn.org, so I can't change the download links. Maybe someone else has already changed them? I have no idea!

Meanwhile, you can still access the new versions, if you can get to the download page. Copy the link location of the old link. Edit "1309" in that link to "1319". Copy the whole new link address and paste it into your browser. Hit "Enter". The new version should now download.

#163. Implement "Export All Visible" button in RouteManagerDialog

This button is bound to lead to confusion........
This is how it works now
Button "Export All": Exports visible and hidden waypoints, routes and tracks but not layers, no matter if they are visible or not.

Button "Export All Visible": Exports visible waypoints, routes and tracks and visible layers.
What does "Visible" mean in this context? It's not what the user can see on the screen in front of her/him! It means the opposite to "hidden". There is nothing stopping waypoints on the other side of the world, to be included in the layer, without the user knowing.

Note that "All" in the examples above, includes layers in one case but not in the other!

To be consistent, we have to change, either what happens when the buttons are pressed or the names of the buttons.

I would prefer to not include layers in "Export All Visible". It's easy enough to edit a layer by importing the layers gpx file in normal fashion and then, after editing, using "Export All Visible" and save it back to the layers directory. Layers are more of a static, longterm feature, and are not supposed to need editing very often.

The error in stiching tracks together seems not to be covered:
inversed entries at stiching point, resulting in a SOG of 0 in that point
Reported as OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1224 Released #124
while chasing that mysterious stalling of O on W7 - btw.: yesterday I had this effect with 3.1.1309 without any datastream coming in, just waiting at the desk.

I still can't reach opencpn.org through my ISP. If I use "tor", I can get to the site, but can't login as the captcha picture on the login page isn't shown !!

I'll try again later this afternoon!

Downloading may be problematic for some users. Read post #2 in this thread, but that will only work if you can get to opencpn.org.

Similar for the link that "sailorF54" published. It's only likely to work if you can reach opencpn.org through your browser.

The whole thing looks like a software update on the server together with some DNS update. It can take up to a day before a DNS update propagates through the net, IIRC.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

I checked the latest beta from GIT and unfortunately the bug to support new generation of AIS devices like the AIT-2000 on Linux/Mac is still present. While this is a very simple bug to correct, it is a real pain for Linux/Mac navigators.

I built a small patch to solve this issue. Necessary changes are minimal but critical for Linux and Mac users as most of them do not have the necessary skills to bypass this issue.

Proposed Changes:
  • replaced the old hard prebuilt list of /dev/ttyUSB devices with a scandir function based on patterns selection and formal verification of devices presence.
Improvements for users:
  1. new generation of AIS devices are now visible
  2. only real devices are proposed to selection. If you have one USB/serial adaptor you get one proposal (snapshot A)
  3. if no device is available you get a warning message (snapshot B) and not a dummy list of non existing /dev/ttySxx as today (snapshot C)
Snapshots
The patch in GIT format is available at:
Some further improvement would be nice, like rechecking the list of devices each time you click on "add connection" but this would impose deeper modification and would be hard to test in a beta.

Thomas....

re "Export All Visible"...

I understand your argument, and am leaning your direction to not include layers in the export.

Lets see what Gilletarom has to say, as the feature was his idea originally.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Issue of hanging under W7 -

seems to be a memory leak.
Observing the memory usage of O with the performance monitor, it creeps up at a speed of aprox 800kB/s, until eating up all available memory.
The "time to crash"/TTC will depend on other processes running at the same time, for instance some housekeeping of Windows.

Under XP this does not happen on my desktop machine.
Another difference:
under XP memory usage is about 20MB, while under W7 the thing starts with about 90MB

There are only very small differences in the settings between the two PCs.
What I will try is to make those under W7 now identical to the XP settings.

Hubert

EDIT:
-------------------------------------------------------
Leakage stops while tool box window is open!
