I confirm your observation about the toolbar.
The variable chartbar based on pan position is normal OCPN behaviour. The chartbar ("piano") is constructed based upon the available charts at the center of the screen. In a sparse chart environment, you will see piano keys come and go as you pan around.
However, a change in the piano key contents should not result in hiding of the toolbar, and that is a reproducible bug.
I got it.
Thanks

I just submitted a pull request that fixes this.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release
It seems I cannot generate a crash unless there are two "different" types of kaps overlaid...
that is, if I stay in my quilt of topos in Alberta or Saskatchewan, with one background small scale overview kap and all the rest of the same scale, far from my CHS coastal charts, I can zoom an' drag forever.
But if I go seaward where a chart quilts with a topo, I can get a crash after about a minute of flagellation.
Likewise, (the crash) , where just quilted mercator charts of varying scales(< a clue?) are involved. It takes awhile but it will happen.
This version of O is very fast by the way. And shows no lack of breath until the crucial blow.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release
Dave
Thanks for this beta
1) Built and run Ok on linux. I didn't see any problem at the moment
2) load, install, run on W10 ( I have migrated to W10 from W8.1 recently)
I have a problem with the locale: Impossible to change the language.
Let's consider I start with a new fresh install:
1) I run the installer . I am proposed the language of my locale variable ( French )
but I prefer English version so I choose "English" then installer runs, then O starts
2) In the settings dialogue I can see "English(US)" that is OK ...
But What is not OK is that O is in French! (dialogue texts are shown in French)
3) I close O then restart : now in the settings dialogue the language zone is empty so is the list of objects proposed to font change
4)I choose 'English(US)' again, close the dialogue, get the message that O must be
restart to apply the change, close then restart O: nothing has changed, I am back to point 3.
In conclusion I can't have another language than my locale variable
The same with my own built of the last git today

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release
For the past few days I have been getting this one of my test laptops. Windows 7 with or without OpenGL. For some reason O can't figure out where to draw the red lines that outline RNC charts. These are all NOAA charts. Has anyone seen something like this before?

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release
transmitterdan, I have seen stuff like the lower left before...in that particular it looks like the chart PLYS are wrong.(Or second option-O is reading them wrong) It has happened before that the US raster charts themselves have a problem (PLYS mark what is seen of the chart ommitting borders for the purpose of a seamless quilt)
or, if you mean the staggered borders, they are probably (or at least possibly) fine, being a chart on a river or inlet?

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release
Thanks for the reply. I think this must be some other problem though. I have 2 laptops for testing. One has this problem and the other doesn't. Both are running the same exact version of O from the same install .exe. Also, using same charts.
I do see errors in the opencpn.log file like this:
Code:
20:23:41: Loading chart data for C:\Users\Dan\Documents\Charts\RNC\US\14926\14926_36.KAP
20:23:41: Chart File contains less than 3 PLY points: C:\Users\Dan\Documents\Charts\RNC\US\14926\14926_36.KAP
20:23:41: ...initialization failed for C:\Users\Dan\Documents\Charts\RNC\US\14926\14926_36.KAP
20:23:41: CreateChartTableEntry() failed for file: C:\Users\Dan\Documents\Charts\RNC\US\14926\14926_36.KAP
But I have seen that a lot before this chart outline issue appeared.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release
Dan...
Please have a look at the indicated file:
C:\Users\Dan\Documents\Charts\RNC\US\14926\14926_3 6.KAP
In my recent NOAA download I see no PLY points either, so this is clearly a bad chart.
Is the chart the same on both machines you are testing?

Dave,
I'll have a look but pretty sure they are the same files. Anyway, O says in the log it did not load that chart so how can it cause red outlines to be drawn randomly as in my post above? One would think the chart in error just would not display at all.

I can confirm most of JP's remarks.
3) The language field is empty and my OCPN is in Swedish, not changeable.
4) Also the same for me. And more, the message box "O must be restarted...." is always shown when OK is hit even if nothing is changed.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release
I confirm the remark Hakan. I tried to replace the French by the French. It changed nothing.

About language change problem
Reverting the pull request " Add UI language detection for Windows on first start."
fixes it.
Beyond the fact this doesn't work properly,I personally don't agree to overcome the user's choice

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release
A workaround for the "toolbar disappearance problem" is to switch to a different program and then back to O. No need to restart.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release
JP/Hubert...
I have discovered the same thing regarding initial locale setting. I will commit a patch today to correct the issue. The original patch was not well checked...
O should allow and respect a user's locale choice, obviously.
Please stand by
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1022 Release
Hi, I'm new here, forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this.
The chart downloader hangs for me on El Capitan. This worked before, but I haven't tried any previous versions since I upgraded to El Capitan. OpenCPN hangs and the Chart Downloader window stays blank. Anyway, dtruss shows this after I try to add a chart source, the opencpn.log doesn't have anything interesting:
Code:
pwrite(0xB, "bplist00\244\001\f +\325\002\003\004\005\006\a\b\t\n\v_\020\017NSIsMainMenuBar_\020\026MenuBar AvailableSpaceZNSWindowIDYNSDataKey^NSWindowNumber\t#@\220P\0", 0x4CF, 0x0) = 1231 0
ftruncate(0xB, 0x4CF, 0x4CF) = 0 0
iopolicysys(0x2, 0x700000116D28, 0x4CF) = 0 0
getattrlist("/Users/<russm31>/Library/Saved Application State/org.opencpn.savedState/window_7.data\0", 0x700000115F78, 0x700000115BB0) = -1 Err#2
kevent_qos(0x3, 0x7FFF8E6711E8, 0x1) = 0 0
lstat64("/Users/<russm31>/Library/Saved Application State/org.opencpn.savedState/window_7.data\0", 0x700000116848, 0x1) = -1 Err#2
Edit: I seem to have resolved this by picking a new path for the charts, and not using my existing chart directory.
