Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

Hi Dave,
I have just tried to install it on both a Linux mint 20.3 XFCE4 system and on the Pi. It does install on mint, but crashes immediately when it tries to start the plugins. I cannot install it on the Pi as I cannot find the armhf install version, it appears to be only available for amd64.

I am still trying and will let you know of any progress.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

I have downloaded the armhf deb file from launchpad and will try it in the morning. I will try to just extract the executable and use that rather than doing an install which 'may' cause other issues.

thanks

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

Just extracted the opencpn executable and tried it on my Pi 3B+. The changes appear to work with the GPRMC message being processed correctly without looping.

Will do more extensive testing tomorrow with the other PC.

Thanks.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

Just got connectivity back having been offline for a day or so - wow! a lot has gone on. Thanks for looking into this, I'll download the updated version which I hope will resolve the issue.
Thanks all.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

Just installed the 'beta' version on the Pi 3B+ and PC and both are working well and communicating over the wifi to display the same data on two systems. So I have tried the ubuntu 18.04 armhf version and the ubuntu 20.04 amd64 versions and the fix seems to be working.

Thanks very much.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

I also expierenced a freeze (version 5.6.0)
I had two NMEA connections active and SK connection inactive.
After removing all connections and only creating a singel new (0183) connection it's all working fine again.

I noticed in the logfile something about switching sources, which triggerd me to loog in to the NMEA connections.
Unfortunately I did not copy the logfile, so no longer available for the exact message.

OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

I see there was some fix applied to 5.6.x branch. I can’t see an updated release in PPA for bionic buster armhf. It’s still 5.6.2 which has this issue.
Is any new release (which would fix 5.6.2) coming out soon?

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

is there an update for flatpack already? I run on a rpi4 with raspberrypi os bullseye 64 bit. I usually don't get any further than one minute, if I even get that far.

The reason I have a signalk connection is that there is no option to have signalk translate volume info (I have two 500l fuel tanks, and two 500 water tanks) to nmea0183.

Thanks,
Hans

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

I have two systems setup that I have been developing with open plotter and also Lysmarine BBN. Both use SignalK and OpenCPN 5.6.2. I have the exact same issue as above, OpenCPN runs find when off the network but when I connect my network (NMEA Feed) OpenCPN locks up after about 5 seconds.

System 1: RPi4 (4MB) running from SSD (Openplotter)
System 2: Rpi4 (4MB) running lysmarine BBN

Tonight I will try and have OpenCPN get the NMEA data directly and skip SignalK.. I will update hte Post with the results.

NMEA source is a Miniplex 3E connected to NMEA2000 network.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

I tested this weeekend: if connected to signalk through nmea 0183, the system is as stable as ever. As soon as I connect over signalk I have to shut down the server to be able to delete the connection, otherwise it freezes before I can do so.

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

I have independent reports from many users that OpenCPN hangs when it’s getting SignalK feed from NMEA 2000

Re: OpenCPN 5.6.2 - SignalK connection causes freeze

Is that a signalk problem then? Maybe we should discuss this with signalk developers?

SignalK works just fine. OpenCPN is the one which hangs
