OpenCPN 5.6.2 hangs quite a lot for me

I’ve tried turn off plugins and data streams.
Most of them and it is still happening.

My charts are NOAA ENC.

I suspect either tracking and auto following or
automatic toolbar auto-hide is broken.

Can’t quite pin point it.

Thanks

Seems to be auto-hide toolbar is broken. At least on raspberry pi buster. Many cases of hanging with it when I switch from OpenCPN window to some other app window.

Can you explain this more fully?
Thanks
Dave

Do you mean with no connections active, or with a connection active, but no stable fix?
Also, what OS and rPi device are you running?

Thanks
Dave

Raspberry pi4 buster version. connection to gps active but no fix. With auto-hide the issues are there even with a fix.
There is whole range of issues from total hangs to extremely slow responsiveness.
I was able to reproduce them at home too with very minimal setup. No plugins and one gps usb stick. NOAA ENC charts.

Auto-hiding on and switching between windows makes it sometimes totally unresponsive. Quite reproducible for me.

Toggling auto follow makes it almost non responsive but I can’t reproduce it reliably.

Let us focus on this one:
"Auto-hiding on and switching between windows makes it sometimes totally unresponsive. Quite reproducible for me. "

1. Enable auto-hide of toolbar.
2. Use OCPN some. Toolbar auto-hides.
3. While toolbar is hidden, switch to another app, using the Desktop task-bar, or whatever.
4. Switch back to OCPN.
5. OCPN is unresponsive.

Is this the correct scenario?

Not to be picky on language, but I need to understand in order to reproduce and correct....
"sometimes totally unresponsive" and "quite reproducible" confuses me.
Does it fail always, most of the time, or occasionally?

Finally:
rPi Buster 64 or 32?

Thanks
Dave

Yes. Try it few times. Give it some pauses. Unless from looking at the code you can find out where issue is. And let’s be specific raspberry pi os, buster which is gtk2 which is very different from gtk3

And zooming NOAA ENC charts specifically around Tappan Zee bridge on Hudson River NY is problematic. Other areas no issues

As far as toolbar is involved. I see that it is registered as a separate window under openbox window manager. It looks to me like toolbars are child windows which Linux or openbox can manage separately. They turn OpenCPN into 3 separate windows app. Which I can switch separately from window manager (openbox in my case). So your code might be looking absolutely perfect but somewhere on wxWidgets level or gtk it’s handled in such ways you didn’t even expect.

For example: because OpenCPN canvas and toolbars are separate windows as far window manager is concerned. Window manager would allow me to close just a toolbar window
