Re: Help / FAQ

Currents worked fine on 5.2.4, but nothing shows in version 5.6.0.

Any ideas? Have downgraded back to 5.2.4 for now. I am on Win10 and yes, otCurrent shows as enabled in 5.6.0.

Re: Help / FAQ

enricble..
There are two kinds of wind instrument in Dashboard.
Some designated as wind "direction" and some wind "angle".
The first show wind directions related to North the latter wind angle related to vessels bow/heading. The latter are what's usually used on board showing starboard or port wind angle. True and/or appeared.

Corresponding NMEA0183 messages are normally $xxMWD related to North and $xxMWV related to vessel's bow.
So,
- what Dashboard instrument are you using? (Screenshot?
- what's your received NMEA wind messages?

Compare my shot with two types of wind instruments.

Re: Help / FAQ

1.06465 radians = 60.99995 degrees. The value you feed to OpenCPN via SignalK is wrong, you need to fix whatever produces it.

I don't know, I'm not on your boat. Is the wind blowing from the stern? If it is, your display is OK.

I would expect your instruments use SeaTalk1 connection and there is something converting SeaTalk to SignalK and that would be the thing I would personally suspect not working correctly. I don't know what that something is in your case.

Raspberry crash on o-chart download

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has come across this same problem. After updating to the newest version of open-cpn and o-charts plugin, I have been unable to download any charts bigger than 600Mb ish (below this filesize everything works as it should) as my poor raspberry just gives up and dies everytime. There's almost 60Gb free space on the SD so I figure it's some sort of cache issue? Am I forced to do the bigger chart sets the offline way from now on or is there a way now or in the near future to only partially download the sets?

No more than before - if the display shows the direction from which you feel the wind blowing on your face, the thing doing the translation from SeaTalk is not doing it right.

Re: Help / FAQ

I'm going crazy - why is my OpenCPN running so slowly!?!

Latest v5.6.2 running on Win10, on a 1 year old HP with a 2GHz Ryzan 7 4700U processor (8 cores) & 16GB of Ram & 2 SSDs.

Even with NO charts loaded except CM93, & no routes, tracks, waypoints or Layers, there's a very noticeable lag (1-sec?) when I try to drag the chart around. My wife has the exact same computer & hers is nice & snappy, with no discernable lag at all.

Task Manager says that 1 core (presumably the display thread?) is completely saturated whenever I try to do something. It calms down when I'm not doing anything, but as soon as I click on something, even just to drag the chart, that core spikes up to 100% for a second or so before the chart moves. When I load up my (admittedly huge) mbTiles & my tracks for the last year, performance gets pretty much unusable, but my wife's computer, with essentially the exact same data, runs fine.

Any ideas on where I could have shot myself in the foot?
Any log-files I can post or stuff I can disable?

This is driving me nuts!

Any help much appreciated. TIA

Re: Help / FAQ

Thanks for looking into this for me, Dave.

This is a very simple example.
  • Start OpenCPN with nothing but CM93 (not attached to GPS)
  • Drag (pan) the chart around a few times (~1 sec delay)
  • Load up my Palawan mbTiles (5 files, ~20GB)
  • Turn on the mbTile (I'm using chart groups, probably #2?)
  • Pan around a bit (~6 sec delay on each action)
  • Close OpenCPN
This works very quickly & easily on my wife's computer, which is exactly the same. And it used to be fast on mine as well. Not sure what I've done, or how to undo that.

Remove the PDF extension & unzip the logfile. It's about 24KB.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.
