For the personal ais system you need to wear the lifejacket.

Until OpenCPN does this, you could use "NavMonPc". It can read a serial port handshake line (CTS) and use it to trigger MOB. The Raymarine Lifetag system has a contact for the piezo-alarm, this would need to be wired to the serial port handshake line "CTS". See navmonpc.com

Thank you for that advice! still hopes it will work in opencpn in the future, but I will buy the system and use navmonpc untill that happens.

Request:

When exporting routes to gpx, could the dialog box default to name the new gpx file the same as the route name in route manager?

Icon display scaling?

I am not sure which release it was but the scaling of user icons changed (I think). It might be that I am using a higher screen resolution now.

Anyway, the stock icons and especially my custom icons are really tiny. Would it be possible to have an option to scale user icons or all icons globally?

I certainly was your screen that changed. Icons are the same as ever.

Scalable icons will not be feasible until wxWidgets supports SVG images which I recon will happen just shortly before hell freezes over.

But note that using the customizable UI styles feature that I implemented in the 3.1 beta series, it is possible to create a new Style with larger icons.

Re: Feature Requests

I was using 3.02 yesterday and noticed that it was not possible (or maybe just not obvious enough) to lock a waypoint to prevent accidentally moving it with the mouse. It would be a good feature if each waypoint had a property option to prevent it from being moved with the mouse.

Reefmagnet..

For the present time you can lock ALL waypoints in the Toolbox/etc. area
which does not have a comment visible.

I would like to also have an option to lock each INDIVIDUAL waypoint.

NMEA Wifi Output

One thing that would be extremely useful would be an NMEA output to a Wifi channel.

There are options (eg. VSPE) that re-transmit an input port out to Wifi. However, that is only part of the picture.

A common set-up has multiple inputs from AIS-GPS and Wind-Depth-Speed-Compass. In addition the Nav tool calculates other NMEA sentances itself (XTE, TTG and so on).

It would be great if the nav'ware could send all NMEA info it has out via Wifi channel.

That would then allow people with Smartphones (iPhone, Android) and Tablets (iPad, Android) to pick up all NMEA info in iNavx, Navionics etc.

Does this sound possible/useful for a future release?

A.

FlashG

This sounds useful, but not really a part of core OpenCPN functionality.

Why are external solutions like VSPE not workable?

Re: Feature Requests

Hi Dave,

VSPE only mirrors one input port out to Wifi.

Whereas, nav software will often have two or even three inputs:
- Wind, Speed, Depth
- AIS [sometimes this will also have GPS]
- GPS

Nav software also derives some NMEA stuff (TTG, XTE and so on). In the Nav'ware we will combine all of this [the Nav'ware is a virtual NMEA multiplexer].

If we want to send all of this for use over Wifi [which is the most obvious thing to do] we need the Nav'ware to provide the ouput [unless you can think of a better solution]?

A lot of modern nav systems will have a bi-directional interface to the na'ware [eg. sending Wind, Depth, Speed and getting back GPS,XTE, TTG].

If there was something like VSPE that pushed both the input and output data across that port out to Wifi that would do the job. Do you know of anything?

Andrew
