Re: Bullitt satellite messenger

I just saw that as well. It seems that in the next few months cheap satellite messaging will become more popular and cheap. The offering here is 30 messages per month for $4.99 and a one time puck fee of $99. And if 30 messages is not enough, one can get 125 messages for $9.99. Other plans are available. One guy mentioned in the comments that his perfect device would be a satellite messenger integrated in his Garmin watch. May that will arrive at some point as well.

I still think that Iridium is a better design (LEO satellites, satellite-to-satellite links), so hopefully the prices of Inreach services will go down over time. One thing is for sure, the value and usefulness of our SSB radios decreased dramatically.

Re: Bullitt satellite messenger

it looked interesting untill I read the receiver end needs to have the special app as well. so this only works if the other person is expecting your msg. you can't just contact anyone. to a phone number or email like the in-reach can.

Yep, just keep thinking that.

Not completely accurate. They will receive the message as a text message but to respond they will need to download the app.

Seems like a fair compromise for $5/mo.
