Spot Connect Satellite Messenger

Hello Does anyone have any experience of using a Spot Connect Satellite Messenger ? I am going offshore ( West Coast USA) and am thinking about buying one. Does the link up with your smart phone work well, I want to be able to send texts to land based contacts. Many Thanks for any advice you may have.

You know of course that cell phones don't work "offshore" they are microwatt radio's using FM "line of sight". Range will be more a function of the height of the tower you happen to be on than any other factor.

SPOT has a sat phone option that you will need.
