Re: Bronze or plastic ?

Wood hull => Bronze transducer*

Steel or aluminum hull => Plastic transducer

Fiberglass hull => Either will work

Plastic transducer more vulnerable to physical damage either externally from slings or internally from being hit by stowed items that are inadequately secured.

Bronze transducer generally more expensive and vulnerable to damage from stray current if not bonded in a sensible way.

(* = someone will point out that the actual transducer part of the transducer is not bronze so I'll just get that out of the way here. It's the housing -- the flared through-hull tube -- that's bronze)

Stainless steel housings are also available.

Airmar makes an ultrasonic version with no paddlewheel which might be worth considering.
