Re: Your boat from space - Google Maps

Here is the Nomad in Coco Muni. Feb 2014. I know that's me because the large scow next to me was moved from the empty slip on the other side. And the small PWC lift in that open slip was removed before I left.

Mine's the Catalina 30 alone in its slip.
Simple, get the picture on your screen, then hit PRT SC key. Go to any picture software (such as PAINT) and hit past. Now you can save it, cut it, manipulate it any way you want.

It should, but it does not! All (3) of my machines get swept with CCleaner every time I use them. CC is supposed to sweep cookies, caches, registers, passwords, etc. etc.

In an interesting way, the old imagery is always served to the newest machine (Windows 8.1) while the older machines (XP and Android) always get the new imagery. Clearly, access to servers at Google is not random but rather driven by some kind of client triggered mechanism (cookie, javascript or otherwise). Everybody knows what Google is up to but few people understand why.

Cheers,
b.

Thanks. Worked like a charm.

Odd, though that now it doesn't show my boat in
the same marina.

Only if you set it up that way. It's very flexible.

Re: Your boat from space - Google Maps

I have found our boat on MapQuest, Google Earth, Bing and others. Sometimes multiple places at once. Every year I check to see when the photo was taken. This spring on Bing we were nowhere. Their photos were greater than 6 years for the marina. We were shown still on the hard in a truck yard near Grand Rapids. Google Earth was from this spring, the most recent.

Re: Your boat from space - Google Maps

For those of you trying to fathom the apparently inconsistent dates of the images in google earth, you may find that turning the 3d view on or off changes the image date. Mostly I have found, unsurprisingly, that the 3d images use newer photos.

What is the resolution? I can't seem to zoom in as close as some of these images? Or maybe I am just dumb?

No, it's not you. It is luck of the draw as to what quality and resolution is available where you are looking. At one point we had exactly half of our house visible in a perfectly crisp clear image, to the point where I could make out the chairs in the garden, but the front half of the hose was jus a red blob, the colour of the roof. Right on the junction of two very different quality source images.

Re: Your boat from space - Google Maps

If you download the Google Earth application, it has a timeline that will show several images taken on different dates – very cool, and helpful for my work.
