Re: Boat naming ideas

How about "Bob": 1 word, 1 syllable. Means to float in the water.

Or Ika, Marshallese for "fish", one word, 2 syllables?

or Aka, Hawaiian for "reflection", one word, 2 syllables?

Way fast on radio for emergency comms. But already used, of course, folks we've met.

Re: Boat naming ideas

We met some boaters who were very proud to have named their 48 ft trawler combining portions of the names of their 4 [5?] grandchildren. It was 12 syllables of gibberish. No one could pronounce it [even they said it differently between them… I never wrote it down.]

If they only used DSC on their VHF radio it didn’t matter. Otherwise they were hailed as ‘Su·per·ca·li·fra·gil·is·tic·ex·pi·a·li·do·ci ous’ [only 2 additional syllables over the name they chose, but more widely known…]

Hopefully a lesson demonstrated…

Cheers, Bill

“Mayday” should fit the bill. Also would get everybody’s attention

Yes, Tupaia,

Our Insatiable II, to us and our friends, is I-2. I just timed it, and it took me 9 seconds. ...Fortunately, I've had a lot of practice with the phonetic alphabet, but it IS way longer to spell out than is optimal. However, I would not choose "OK" either. Confusing with a "panne panne".

Re: Boat naming ideas

For God's sake stay away from names like; "Betty Sue", "Barbara Ann", etc., etc.
They're just worn-out hack names for old rusty fish boats.
