Samsung S4. Can Anyone Suggest Good Nav & Weather Apps?

Hi, I have done some searching and there seems to be plenty of apps out there for the Iphone but bugger all for the Samsung S4.
Can someone please direct me to a good (see. best) Navigation and weather apps available for the Samsung S4.
I am based in Australia, It may have a bearing on the best weather app. Not shore.
Thanks Jeff

I use Navionics on the S4 - you can get it at the Google Play store. They state it is not suited for the S4 and I didn't read that until I had downloaded and installed it. Seems to work fine though luckily and I have used it simultaneously with my Raymarine C series to check its accuracy. I don't use it as my primary device though.

I use Buoyweather for my weather app - I have the Premium subscription, which is quite expensive at $80. The free version works well but you only get 2 days of boating forecast - not much good for planning a 5 day cruising window. Depends on how much you need it - you can run with the trial version of the Pro subscription for 7 days I think.

I am based in Tasmania and find that both work well.

Thanks BeagleBoy.
Downloaded the Navionics this morning.
$80 bucks is a bit steep for the weather. Anybody have a good alternative?

Jeff

I like Windfinder for 6 day forecasts. Windfinder Android app for wind, waves, weather reports and forecasts - Windfinder

It has a good selection of Australian coastal locations.

Buoyweather offers a 15 day trial of the Pro version.

WRT to cost of the Premium version, a lot depends on how often you need it.
It is easy to switch between free and premium for a month at a time - you just need to insert and then clear your CC number from your personal details and you will be charged for a single month at $14.95.

When it switches back to free at the end of the month, it still remembers all of your settings such as custom locations

I just activate Premium for a month when planning a trip. I consider it well worth it.

The rest of the time, WIndfinder does enough.

Thanks StuM.
I will give it a try. Are you using the Pro or the Free?
Hows life up there in New Guinea? Worked there in 1990.

WIndfinder - I'm using the free version. The Superforecast which is the main advantage of the Pro version doesn't cover this part of the world - the only other advantage is the absence of ads which don't bother me a lot.

Life's probably much the same as when you were here - still the "Land of the Unexpected".

Another thumbs up for weather 4d, I've not used it on Android yet, only on iPad and iPhone, but it is really the only iOS/Android GRIB viewer that competes with the desktop apps, if there is another I haven't stumbled upon it yet.

Re: Samsung S4. Can Anyone Suggest Good Nav & Weather Apps?

Jeff, you won't find any nav apps for the Samsung S4.

You will find them for Android devices as a class, but not for specific Android phones like the S4.

The iPhone is not a phone, but a family of phones that run the Apple iOS, which is a competitor to the Android OS. The iPhone 5s, 4s, 5c, those are all specific iPhones and again, software usually isn't written for any one of them, but for the iOS in general.

Re: Samsung S4. Can Anyone Suggest Good Nav & Weather Apps?

I use MX Mariner as a backup. Great, Free, NOAA raster charts. I believe the app was about $5 and the charts are free. The size of the S4 is an asset with charts.

I also have the phone version of activecapt.com.... nuticharts lite.
